Viri I've always been real carful about never running an executable email attachment (I use Eudora Pro 5.0) etc.
and in the 6 yrs I've been on the net, I've never had a virus until now.
The virus is called "W32/FunLove.gen" and once it gets control, it infects EVERY .exe file on your system and even on network drives. Just before I got it, I had installed Newtella, which is similar to Napster, except there is no centralized database. Its one of the several clients that use the Gutenella protocol. Like Napster, it asks you to declare a folder for sharing and I created a new folder on my desktop called 'Music' and declared this. I then went online and only downloaded one .mp3 file then all of a sudden, I was infected.
As I think about it, all desktop folders are really subfolders of Windows so was I possibly giving access to my entire windows folder? ( I also had filesharing turned on for my entire C: drive for my home network). Does anyone have an opinion as to whether the virus could have entered this way? |
