playing .avi files

I downloaded an .avi file that should normally play on my win player but this one didn't...

Does anyone know of another player I can use or anything else I can do with the file it would be appreciated =)

Salut toi,

DivX, did you know that it's a French technology ? Now you know !

I complete my answer :

Pour un autre lecteur va voir à :
For an other player, have a look at :

http://www.real.com/player/index.htm...lang=en&loc=us

Essaye RealPlayer 8 Basic, c' est gratuit.
Try RealPlayer 8 Basic, it's free.

Enfin, peut-être que ton .avi est endommagé ?
Finally, maybe is your .avi damaged ?

I don't understand French so I don't know what those other replies were saying. I have been able to play and "repair" several divx files using the freeware program Virtual Dub. The repair consisted of rekeying and then saving the rekeyed file. The divx/avi files then played very nicely on Windows Media Player.

You can also try using DivFix ( http://www.divx-digest.com/software/divfix.html ).
