Gnutella Freezing?

I seem to be fine when I first start the program but after about 5 mins it freezes on me. It can be on any section, Downloads, searching, host etc.

If I close the program down via the task manager and restart it is fine, but then the same thing happens.

Does anyone else have a problem with Gnutella freezing? and if so have you found a solution?

Cheers

mine freezes.. but generally only 'temporary freezing'.. more like, lag (computer lag)

i don't know of any solution.. but i do know that mine only lags when i am connected to hosts.. and usually, the longer i'm connected to the network, the more i lag, or, the more likely that i will lag.. so, i try not to be connected long..

when i begin a download, i always disconnect from the network.. to save bandwidth (considering i'm on 56k), and to prevent the program lag..

yep, gnotella freezes :(

hi all you out there,

it's sad but true - my gnotella freezes too :( i am on dsl and behind a firewall, but i got the settings accordingly. doesn't help - after a (short) while the program won't accept any user actions anymore, i.e. no buttons can be pressed (or at least nothing happens). interesting is, that if it freezes on the network/host page, the content still gets updated.

does anyone know help? otherwise i can't even give it a try ...

thanx in advance for any constructive answers!

it was lag - but this can't be it?

hm ... i was sharing my mp3-folder, which makes up >4GB. I removed that and only share movies now - only 7 files or so having the same amount of data. now it walks (it definatly doesn't run though!).

come on - is that the same with all of you? i am running Gnotella on a 500MHz Athlon with 128MB RAM. is that really so crappy slow? please report how you experience Gnotella. i btw didn't have the "monitor changes" option on. but if it is always that slow, i will use BearShare instead - although i seem to like Gnotella more ...

and if it "freezes" for you, try out sharing only few files, it seems to help ...

I suffer from exactly the same problem. Haven't found a soloution either.

try this ...

while it is still not running ok for, i tried some things out. firstly, reduce the number of hosts. i was ... let's say almost acceptable ... with 4 (!) hosts. perform only searches which will return a small number of results. so don't look for "mp3", but look for "artist part_of_title".

what happened then is - astounding as it is - it started running better. maybe it fills some host-cache-file or .. well, i just don't know. but it seems to run quite ok now, although i still get it to hang when having a lot of parallel stuff running. but it was stable for about 10 hours or so ...

maybe this helps you. and please report on your further experiences. maybe we can figure out what helps to get it running. i like it way more than bearshare - if it just would be more stable :)

solution:
uninstall gnotella

It seems to be a problem with a cache file filling up. As an experiment, I unlisted the directories that I was sharing and the lockups disappeared. The program that handles search requests (afiledb) is a resource hog, so the more files in your shared directory the more unresponsive Gnotella becomes. This should be fixed in the next revision, as they are working on the resource hogging problem. Until then, keep the # of files in your directories small, or try unchecking seach full path of file so it only scans the end directory where the files reside

new version of gnotella?

starting gnotella i got the message "new version available". already thought "ah, good. now it's going to be better :)". but there was only 0.9.9 which i am already running. so is there a new version coming up or what?
