of course there's no Search icon, instead there is a "Keywords:" field with a big Search button.

The user (Unregistered again) may be having the same problem I'm having, where all the connections run out after an hour or so. When that happens the search windows "grays out" and you can't enter a search string (because you have no connections, likely).

I have my own problem in that I can't seem to get any connections going again after that point. I type in "router.limewire.com" and 6346 for port and it tries for a second or two, then nothing. Still says cache empty.

Best results I had was when I typed in the IP address of a user who was currently downloading from me. Then I got action for a minute or two while it checked all of the connections he had. But all of them failed and I was left again with an empty cache.

Am I doing something wrong? Or is Gnucleus having a bug problem? My only recourse now is to wait until all my uploaders are done (or just bump them off) and close it all down and restart.

Well, I thought I found a fix to my own problem. But now I've got a worse problem.

I found a place in the "preferences" "connections" menu where it says to "drop nodes if fewer than 30 friends". This seemed like an excessive default to me so I changed it to 10 friends.

Then the gnutellahosts.com cache seemed to work (the router.limewire.com and host.gnutella.hostcache.com caches still give me nothing. At least I got action and I finally connected again. (By the way, I'm on a dial-up and I have connections set for min 3 and max 5)

But even these connections fizzled out after ten minutes or so. After that nothing would work to raise any more connections. So I closed Gnucleus and restarted it. It still wouldn't connect after restarting. It just ran through the entire list of 200 or so IP addresses, one by one, and never found even the most temporary connection.

So then I shut down everything, rebooted (Wi***) and started my ISP connection up. Then I clicked on the Gnucleus icon. Briefly grayed out, then nothing. No program screen. Nothing showing in the systray or on the task manager. I clicked the icon several times. Still nothing showed in the systray, but task manager showed multiple copies running.

This wasn't good so I rebooted AGAIN and started up my ISP and clicked on the Gnucleus icon. Again, nothing showing and nothing in the task manager.

I guess Gnucleus has shut itself down and I can't use it anymore. Any ideas out there?

It was the RIAA testing their new blocking software. They are going to use it in court to prove they can shut down the network then say since they can do it they should do it. If you only had zillions from over priced product, you too could do a DDOS attack and get away with it.

Cool

Well, Gnucleus is working again. I just got bored and tried clicking the icon one more time. Now it works.

Only thing I can figure is maybe I have to give my poor, tired Pentium a little longer to sort out its thoughts after I log-in to my ISP before I try starting Gnucleus.

Anyway, as Emily Litella says, "Nevermind!"
:-)

[PS: GNUCLEUS ROCKS!]
