Also constantly 'connecting'.. won't update
 

I'm having a similar problem as John Paul. I tried reinstalling, but after downloading the v1.8.6 installer, it stopped and said the downloader was too small. ?????

Hence, I tried the 1.8.4 installer that worked, but I still ended up with constant connecting.

What's the problem ? I really liked Gnutella. I can't stand all the advertising crap from the others. Plus, I really don't care about mp3's. I look for other shared stuff.

John Paul was using LimeWire, you are obviously using Gnucleus.

I know I'm using (or trying to) use Gnucleus. I was hoping someone could give me advice on how to connect?

It used to work fine.

uninstall gnucleus
browse to your program files to delete the files left too (you can leave your shared folder)
download this:
the correct 1.8.6 installer
Please post if it worked

I did exactly what you said. It seemed to try to connect, but just kept trying and never did.

Any other ideas?

Check the files in your gnucleus directory.
- Gnucache.net
- Gnuultracache.net
- webcache.net

are they filled ??
try deleting the contents of webcache.net, and inserting this:
members.lycos.nl/icarus2de/gcache.php

It didn't work either

I did exactly as you suggested. All my caches had stuff in them and the advanced tab in Gnucleus was saying my cache was full.
So I deleted the webcache and put in the code you listed and saved the file.

I ran Gnuclueus and it still kept trying to connect, but never did.

So I exited the program and checked the webcache again, but there was nothing in it. I repeated the process to make sure I had done it correctlyt, but got the same result.

So then I deleted all the text in the other caches you listed and saved the files with only the webcache containing the one line of code from you.

I then ran the program, and it just hung up on 6 green blocks under the 'connecting' message and hasn't progressed any farther. There is a message now saying cache is empty. I checked all the caches again and all were empty.

What can I do? I really miss Gnucleus???:confused:

Lets think about the connections, does mozilla work? (you are not using IE like a smart user right?)
If you are running a firewall like zone alarm, make sure it lets this program make OUTGOING connections at the minimum, and you should let it be a "server" meaning incoming connections to port 6346 (if thats the port you have set.
Now, if you are at a university you may be screwed because your admin sucks and he has blocked gnutella packets.
No problem, being screwed just gets you mad and then you find out that a group inside your network shares internally on a private LAN, just watch some packets on your network or ask around.
Point being, if your browser works, Gnuc should too, but if not then something is wrong out on your network, or maybe, just maybe you have that "newdotnet" or "savenow" spyware thing that tries to redirect connections (this is a long shot), search on google for solutions to get rid of them (via uninstall mostly).
ok, enough, this is basic, now tell me more if it still has problems, or tell how you got it working for the next guy.

Oh yea, a good network packet monitoring program is "ethereal" search for it it's free.
