you don't need to check the firewall box if you have given gnucleus server rights under zone alarm, it sould look like any other client on the internet.

connecting to someone you know should be as simple as typing their IP into the address box under advanced tab in connections.

I think some cable connections can change ip during a connection but I have nerve heard of this happening to a dailup.
