downloads problems I have downloaded several disk images and they do not mount. I downloaded them on my always-on PPC Linux machine then transferred them to my OS X machine where they are unusable. The images are allegedly OS X .dmg format but Disk Copy barfs on them (no mountable filesystem.) Am I doing something wrong? |
This is a bit off topic, but well, run the file command on your disk image(s) and look what the output says. e.g.: $ file bla.dmg Maybe you then see that it's something different :) |
Thanks for the suggestion; this was somewhat helpful. I ran the file command on several disk images in my downloads directory on OS X. The results: two of them said they were "lif file" and others were identified as "data," even though the file extension of all is ".dmg" Disk image files of both kinds were able to mount. The problematic file which did not mount was also identified as a "lif file" but Disk Copy (which is supposed to mount the image) complains there are no mountable file systems. Perhaps it is the result of the sharing parties inability to make available a valid disk image? |
Can't help you, sorry :) |
there's a related thread over on the Mac forum http://www.sciforums.com/f72/s/showt...threadid=17846 Chances are the file won't open though. |
