You may have to let the site through any security you have on your computer..You can also try allowing the site from the pop up blocker if you have it...:rolleyes_2:

umim January 4th, 2007 06:15 PM

wondering why, thanx for your reply. I played with security setting of my firewall, still nothing. I put it in "exception" for popups in my firefox browser, still the same, I put it in the "trusted" site in the Internet Option in the Control Panel. It is not working. Any other ideas?Thanx.

Are you trying to find info on a file or are you trying to rate a file...

umim January 4th, 2007 06:31 PM

I'm looking for info, before download.

wondering why January 4th, 2007 06:35 PM

So your right clicking on the file, selecting advanced, look file up with Bitzi...

Some how I think it sounds related to your browser have you another you could try it with...

umim January 4th, 2007 06:39 PM

I still have IE (somewhere), but how can I let the IE kick in instead of firefox?

wondering why January 4th, 2007 06:45 PM

lmao...I don't know try going to the start menu and find it in there...

umim January 4th, 2007 08:13 PM

Uninstalled Firefox, enabled IE in my firewall. No change.

umim January 5th, 2007 02:26 PM

BTW clicking on Help>Phex Homepage (or Phex Forum) is taking me nowhere. Can any1 know what is going on? Do PHEX have some Technical Support? Thanx for any help or info in advance.

GregorK January 5th, 2007 02:52 PM

Do you have a Phex.dll in the directory you have the phex.jar?
Do you use Phex.exe or do you start Phex in a different way?

Is there anything added to your C:\Documents and Settings\<your user name>\phex\phex.error.log file after you click on Bitzi or Phex Homepage item.

umim January 6th, 2007 10:24 AM

Hi Gregor, thanx for your help. Yes - I have a Phex.dll in the directory. No - I do not have phex.jar, but I have commons-loging.jar. When I tried to open it this is what poped-up:
"Failed to load Main-Class manifest attribute from C:\Program Files\Phex_2.8.10.98\commons-login.jar"
BTW I have same problem with Bearshate ( witch I don't like it), I cannot use Bitzi from that program. I like to replace Bearshare with Phex. I'm using Phex.exe to start Phex.Thanx again.

Firefox or IE should make no difference for Bitzi.

Could you check, if you can reach bitzi directly from your browser:
http://bitzi.com

umim January 7th, 2007 08:04 AM

arne, thanx for ypur help. Both IE and Firefox have no problem opening Bitzi website. I know it is NOT Phex, but something wrong with my machine. If any1 know anything, please help. Thanx.

GregorK January 7th, 2007 09:55 AM

What kind of Windows Version do you have?
On XP and 2K you should be able to open a command window and type:
start http://phex.org
This should then open a browser.
Also a browser should open if you do START - Run... and type in the window:
http://phex.org

This is basically almost the same Phex is doing when you click on these buttons.

If no browser opens you might have a problem in the Windows Registry. I would try to reset a browser as the default browser, maybe this will fix it..??

Gregor, thanx for your help. Phex is running now, Bitzi Ticket is working. I formated my HD, installed Win XP Pro with integrated SP2. I'm testing Phex right now. I'll be back with more question. Thanx again, I like it here.

umim January 9th, 2007 08:03 AM

I'm back with some questions. 1st:When entering search data on the left, I picked "Programs" option on the right. After clicking on Start Search "Programs" option changing to "Any Type". Why? I don't need Ice Cube mp3, when I'm searching for computer program. 2nd: Bitzi Ticket is "working", but no matter what I'm looking for or clicking on, it is always giving me just..."We are sorry......" result. It is not Bitzi error, I'm getting "real" results from Bearshare. 3rd: I do not like Bearshare because of theirs spyware in the program and fact that about 85% of any search result are virus infected files or total BS.What I like about Bearshare is SPEED between 1 to 2Mbps. Fastest speed using Phex was 13Kbps! That's useless. Am I doing something wrong? Thanx for any help.

arne_bab January 9th, 2007 03:32 PM

- What bandwidth did you select? (go into options to have a look)

- The filters only work after you started a search. To make the search more specific, just include the file-suffix in your search (that's what I do :) )

- Bitzi: Try searching for "anomatrix .avi", and check if one of the files gives you a valid bitzi-ticket. It might just be, that you were unlucky with the test-cases.

PS: Please open a new thread, if yet more questions should arise. That makes it easier for other users to find relevant info.

umim January 9th, 2007 07:16 PM

arne, thanx for reply. I'll open a new thread. I selected 100% FULL bandwith. I do not understand your what did you mean by ..."the filters work after you started a search". When I start my car, I know exactly where I'm going. Well it looks like Phax need to go back to drawing board. It is toooo bad, I tought I found replacement for that stupid Bearshare.

arne_bab January 9th, 2007 07:46 PM

Please try to keep a nice tone in these forums.

Your post could easily be seen as quite insulting.

PS: Filters: Just select the filter after you started the search.

umim January 9th, 2007 09:26 PM

Sorry if my tone is not "nice". My post should easily be seen as quite criticizing, not insulting. Criticizm is healty and should help develppers. Users are THE BEST testers they have.

arne_bab January 10th, 2007 05:08 AM

Criticism is healthy, if it is constructive.

Means: How can we do it better? (And do it in a way which is actually doable... we don't have 20 hired programmers, and all our programmers work in their free time because it's fun to write code, so, if you have some ideas which need some more work, it would be nice if you had some ideas where to get additional developers from).

And besides that: Phex can't simply go "back to the drawing board". It is in already active developement for years, and changing the basic layout of the app is quite some task.

And if it interests you what's planned for the next few months, just have a look at the Development Roadmap.

umim January 10th, 2007 12:44 PM

Hey arne, do not get me wrong. First: I LIKE PHEX, I have nothing but GREAT respect for your hard work. I wish I know how to do coding and all the other stuff. I can help you only with testing, ideas and telling you what I thing is wrong, what I thing need to be changed in "user" point of view. So, FILTERS is one of function, witch need to be changed, then SPEED. My download capacity is about 6Mbps, upload about 370Kbps. Downloading 650Mb file with speed of 15Kbps is nonsense, nobody will do it. So answering your question: "How can we do it better ?"....I'm not sure, but I know what to do it better. Now I'll go visit Development Roadmap. Again thanx for Phex.

GregorK January 10th, 2007 01:40 PM

http://www.phex.org/wiki/index.php/P...imization_Tips

If you have enough CPU power, number 6 will give you the biggest boost on downloads.

arne_bab January 10th, 2007 04:08 PM

I'm just doing a test which shows, that it is indeed possible to download one file from 50 (with 10 waiting) sources using less than 10% CPU (mean on athlonxp 64, ~2,44Ghz).

I get 320 kB/s on it (that's what my connection can pull).

That's with the setting: Maximum download connections: 99
Maximum connections per file: 66
