How to set default Programs for media files?

On Windows and OS X only the OS registered application is used.

On other OS you need to add/change the values in your phexCorePrefs.properties (found here):

SystemTools.OpenVideoCmdOtherOS = xterm -e mplayer %filepath%
SystemTools.OpenImageCmdOtherOS = ee %filepath%
SystemTools.OpenAudioCmdOtherOS = xterm -e mplayer %filepath%
SystemTools.OpenBrowserCmdOtherOS = mozilla -remote openURL(%filepath%,new-window)

i can not launch music... can you help me?

arne_bab September 5th, 2007 11:38 PM

You need the proper programs for that.

Did you already try opening a file with the videolan client?
VideoLAN - Free Software and Open Source video streaming solution for every OS!

If that also doesn't work, please post a seperate THread in this Forum, so we can answer in depth.

Best wishes,
Arne

I'm getting too many fake files disguised as MP3s, how can I tell the difference and eliminate the downloading of viruses and worms?

Lord of the Rings November 21st, 2008 08:54 PM

A different gnutella client program, however the examples also apply, I hope this helps a little: Virus thread: Typical virus spam file sizes - Make a note of them (click on blue link to see). Recognising various file sizes & some other tricks used by spammers helps greatly. :)

@johnnys55s: Please go to the LimeWire forums with that question - you're in teh Phex forums right now. Better still: Search these forums. I'm sure there's already an answer to your question in here.

Don't know what i'm doing !

I was wondering how to change what media player that is used to open my video files I have downloaded. Any clue ? Thanks.

arne_bab January 10th, 2009 10:41 AM

As soon as you downloaded them just start them from your download folder (from your normal file-browser).

Right-click a file and select "open with".

I don’t have windows, so could you test it?

It would be great if Phex would remember more than the default last 10 keyword searches. Ultimately I would like to be able to import a list of keywords to be searched whenever the program runs.

Is there a way to change the saved keyword searches in Phex from the default of 10 to a larger number?

GregorK January 28th, 2012 02:41 AM

Yes...
to store 20 entries add this line to your phexGuiPrefs.properties file:

SearchTab.MaxSearchHistorySize=20

BTW: If you like I would recommend to use one of the latest Phex snapshot releases:
Index of /snapshots

dirtstaind January 29th, 2012 11:49 PM

Thanks !!
That worked out great for me.
I appreciate your help immensely.

dirtstaind January 31st, 2012 12:14 AM

GregorK,
Is there a maximum amount that you can search for with this line added?
20 worked fine.
So just out of curiosity I changed it to 100.
That worked.
I upped it to 200 and entered 185 search terms and that was over the limit evidently.
The splash screen would load but then it would just disappear.
The program was still running as you could find it in the processes field under task manager.
I didn't wait to see if it would eventually load that many.
PC power shouldn't have been a problem as it is a dual XEON processor machine with 32GB RAM.
Not that I would ever play with Phex at work or anything.
:D
Just thought I would let you know.

GregorK January 31st, 2012 12:31 AM

Actually I don't think that you hit a limit and I don't think its a CPU problem. It sounds more like some kind of error. I tried to repeat what you did, but I couldn't find any problem.
Can you PM me your phex.error.log or have look at the end of it if there is an error with a timestamp of the time you were starting Phex.
