Phex 3.2 won't run: 0SX 10.4

Phex 3.2 won't start on my Intel Mac Mini running Java 1.5. It bounces in the dock for less than a second then disappears. I had no issues running the most previous version. Any thoughts? Or a link to the previous version?

Intel Mac Mini
OSX 10.4
Java2 1.5
No Virus software conflicts

Do you have anything in your phex.error.log file?
You might find it in your ~/Library/Application Support/Phex folder.

brunjp10 June 20th, 2008 04:43 AM

It hasn't created that file. I ran a system search for it, just in case, with no results.

BTW, previous PHEX installs did create the folder in application support. They were deleted to get a fresh install.

Java is verifying...and working with other programs.

Any other ideas?

Did you start Phex by commandline? with "java -jar phex.jar"? Or did you use the OS X packaged App?

brunjp10 June 20th, 2008 12:14 PM

I used the packaged app. Should I try the command line?

GregorK June 20th, 2008 12:21 PM

yes

brunjp10 June 20th, 2008 12:23 PM

I"ll give it a go when I get home from work.

GregorK June 20th, 2008 12:25 PM

ok.. please post any output in case you get something.

brunjp10 June 20th, 2008 02:57 PM

Ok, this is what I'm getting. I obviously included the "Input/Output" text to show what I typed. Hopefully I did it right. If I type in the address to the .jar file without calling java I get a permissions error. Don't know if that's important.

Input
java -jar /Applications/phex_3.2.2.104/Phex.app/Contents/Resources/Java/phex.jar

Output

GregorK June 20th, 2008 03:01 PM

what is the output of "java -version"
Phex needs 1.5

brunjp10 June 20th, 2008 03:04 PM

See below. I also double checked my Java preferences, I have it running J2SE 5.0.

java version "1.5.0_13"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_13-b05-241)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_13-121, mixed mode, sharing)

OK... I think I know where the problem is. I will try to publish a new release on Sunday or Monday. Sorry for the inconvenience and many thanks for the help to find the problem.

brunjp10 June 20th, 2008 03:12 PM

Rockin'

No problems at all. Glad to be the Guinea Pig :)

It might take some more time until the download is available on all the mirrors. But it would be great if you can try if it now works for you.

Phex 3.2.4 Download

Not yet available on my mirror. Will try again in some hours time.
Phex 3.2.0.102 connects fine for me. (though I perhaps shouldn't mention that.)

brunjp10 June 22nd, 2008 11:56 AM

It's working now!

Thanks much.

brunjp10 June 22nd, 2008 12:12 PM

Now my issue is that I can't connect to any hosts. They all time out. Again, my computer has the same exact setup as with previous versions of PHEX. Only this time it's not working.

Could my firewall be stopping this version for some reason?

You might need to reconnfigure your firewall for this version. Some firewalls such as Norton can be fussy in that regard. But since you are running OSX, is your OSX firewall on? If yes, is there an exception for Phex, or do you click yes to allow it with the popup window when you open the program?

This version connects fine except it seemed to take longer than normal to find stable multiple hosts to connect to. :)

brunjp10 June 22nd, 2008 03:30 PM

Dang. I've had to edit this post 3 times.

Everything's fine. Connects fine and downloads file fully!
