Vista and Bearshare

Hello, I just got my New windows vista laptop and I installed bearshare lite. When i try searching for stuff it just says queued, and later on it just says bearshare is not working and turns off and gives me this list of reasons why it might not be working. I have tried a couple of solutions but nothing seems to work. If anyone can give me advice that would be great, Thankyou.

Is windows firewall enabled?
Are you behind a hardware firewall?
Do you have any other security software on?

vista/BS

I've been running Bearshare on a Vista notebook for about 4 months now (and on a Vista desktop - Vista 64-bit, no less, but that was a pain to get working).

Vista is notorious about making sharing difficult, so make sure sharing is turned on for your BS file folder. As for not connecting, there is likely still a firewall involved. Check your status indicators in BS (top right of the window) and it should tell you if there is a tcp or udp firewall running. I had to totally disable the stock Vista firewall to get BS running - it kept ignoring exceptions.

Oh yeah - my notebook also came with Norton Internet Security installed, and it had a firewall of its' own. Nothing that "uninstall" didn't fix.

How did you get Bearshare working on Vista 64bit? I have Bearshare Lite 5.2.5 on my Vista 64bit system and all of the buttons are overlapped. I still use it, but when I go to search or refresh anything I have to be really careful where the cursor is otherwise I end up cancelling my search. Thanks in advance.

Vista 64/Bearshare

I haven't run Bearshare on 64-bit Vista or XP for awhile now. I could never get it to run stable on a long-term basis. The server it runs on now is 32-bit XP, running as an Ultrapeer, sharing about 50,000 files, and it will run for two weeks or more with no attention from me.

The general problem I had was "resource creep". It would continue using more and more RAM, until it would max out and crash after 5 or 6 days. The screen problem sounds more like a video issue...?

Cheers
Nick
