hey I really need some help.

hey I really need some help.

I am currently using bearshare and after upgrading it this past weekend, it no longer connects. It simply says that Bearshare is unable to connect and that I should try again later.
I had no problems until I upgraded.
So I tried using Limwire and it didn't work either...however my room mate's limewire does.
I'm at college right now and I'm behind this thing called Websense, but the thing is that I ahve never had problems liek this before!
Please help.

furthermore,

Recently our network has mandated that we login every time we open up Internet Explorer, so I am required to constantly authenticate.

If it worked before and now doesn't, suspect your firewall.
Erase all the rules for BearShare and rebuild them from scratch.

Since others are already using BearShare or LimeWire in the same house, change
your port number too. Pick a number at random between 5000 and 65535.

Port?
Where is it that I do that?

I went to my Windows Firewall settings and erase all taht I could, and then I restarted my computer and it asked me if I wanted to block or unblock Bearshare, so I unblocked it, but it still won't let me connect.

I click "sign in" and immediately it says that "bearshare is unable to connect. Please try again later".

Limewire is still a no go.

Any more suggestions? Could you further explain the port thing?

Thank you so very much for the help.

I read on the actual bear share website that they are having some issue becuase of the new release that many people are unable to connect to their server and that it is going to be fixed shortly. Maybe that helps?

No, that is the RIAA front that took over when BearShare was sued out of business. They are
referring to their own iMesh clone software that is using the names of BearShare and Shareaza
to sell music on their own proprietary network and DRM scheme.

Try the original BearShare, which you can find here: Sticky: BearShare has been sabotaged.
The settings for the connection are in the Connection part of the Options menu.

Are you serious?

What about my subscription service? I was paying monthly to get these unlimited DRM downloads?

I downloaded Lite 5.2.5 and it still won't connect...

I'm currently down the street at a place with free wifi and Bit Torrent works fine, it is blocked back at school...

But Limewire and the Bearshare Lite don't work still.

No surprise there. Gnutella is particularly easy to block. Check with your roommate how he got
his LimeWire to work and you should be able to do the same with BearShare.

Use the 5.10b25 beta version I mentioned because the later versions (5.2.0.6 and up) were
sabotaged with remote controls which are probably to blame for their inability to connect from
where you are.

Hi, AW... It sounds as if jpitt1987 may be another victim of a scam.

Hiya, jpitt1987 !
In your next post, would you please include specific info re: the BearShare versions you have been using and are now trying ?
And, be sure to use the earlier version of BearShare that AW mentions above !!!
