Java 1.4

My LimeWire doesn't work with Java 1.4,
It just doesn't open, and it doesn't show errors.

Have you tried any other Java Applications with 1.4?

Have you uninstalled both Java and LimeWire and re-installed?

Are you able to see if javaw is in your task manager list?

etc.

1. IE, it works fine.
2. Yes.
3. Didn't check, and I'm using 1.3 now.

I'm using Windows Millenium, LimeWire 2.4.4

I had recently installed JRE 1.4, and since then Limewire has behaved strangely: when downloading files, the speed continually slows until it reaches 0KB/s. Additionally, if trying to do a search, and I hit the ENTER key, nothing happens. Only rebooting temporarily resolves the problem.

I have completely removed 1.4, and reinstalled 1.3.1_01, and Limewire is working better than ever - no more problems.

Worked for him/her :)

I installed Java 1.4, and THEN installed LimeWire. I didn't reinstall LimeWire.

I've running XP & Limewire (3 consecutive versions) and I just upped to Java 1.4 without a problem.

I would suggest the uninstall/reinstall idea.

:D :D

I tried to uninstall-reinstall several times.

uninstall jre 1.3.x or make sure 1.4 is the system default.
usually limewire will use a locally installed jre and the newest version.

I tried that.

I formatted my hard-disk, and reinstalled windows (now I have Windows 98 Second Edition). Then I installed Java 1.4 and LimeWire.
The path to which LimeWire's shortcut points is:

"C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.0\bin\javaw.exe" -Xss64k -Xms4m -Xminf0.10 -Xmaxf0.25 -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true -jar RunLime.jar

But it still doesn't work!

you have to set 'execute in' for the link to your limewire install folder.

I know, the "execute in" folder is LimeWire's.
By the way, I have an AMD processor. Maybe the Java 1.4 Runtime doesn't work with AMD?

shorebreak June 9th, 2002 08:26 AM

it does work with AMDs - I got one too.

are you using the limewire distribution from limewire.com?

I have LimeWire pro, which I downloaded from their site.

goto the command line and type "java -version"
see which version of java you're using.

while you're trying remove the " " signs from your shortcut path.

It doesn't and it can't work without "" because there are spaces. Windows treats spaces as one parameter only if there are written between "".
This is the shortcut that LimeWire creates by default - I didn't change it.
