Limewire 2.9.10-Pro(Beta) released

FYI
No word yet on what's different...

sdsalsero April 30th, 2003 08:01 PM

I see some nice cosmetic changes -- good job LW!

1. the different windows now remember your column adjustments
2. lists are easier to read because there's a light blue background on every other line (sort of like on old fashioned printouts)

There no big new features in this one. The main changes were compression, improved search architecture, udp replies in 2.9.9.

Great feature--32 peers when connected as leaf!

Twice i managed to get LW 2.9.10 to connect as a leaf to 32 Ultrapeers for over an hour each time. (seemed like a cheat, so I quit and restarted with Ultrapeer disabled). All I had to do was change the check on "disable", disconnect as a leaf, reconnect as UP, wait about 5 mins till the thrashing started (DNS of connections fails to resolve), go to prefs and disable ultrapeer, and voilą!--list of connections slowly builds. btw--searching for rare episodes as leaf was pretty much the same whether connected to 3 or 32.

If other clients behind my NAT want to connect and see each other--we can't use a forced IP. This means that the Acq can't run with LW until I learn to stop the auto force IP.

hi stief -- this has nothing to do with your comment, but i noticed in your screenshot that the row stripes didn't look like they were on the first column. they should be on every column of every other row -- are they? thanks.

stief May 4th, 2003 12:37 PM

Yes--but very faint.

btw--if you want the full size screenshots (incl the Acq-like u/d %'s in the progress bars, let me know and I could dump them on my iDisk--I took a break and played with about 140 screenshots this weekend when I should have been working).

I forgot to mention that transferring files back and forth between my NAT'ed machines resulted in a corrupt message . The only way I found to prevent this was to manually refresh the shared library before making the transfer.

[edit--and the white lines in graph stats also don't show against the default desktop theme]

Is there finally an auto "IP Detect" function???

ErikB5 May 5th, 2003 03:06 PM

Stripes ? I've got a Windows 2000 SP3 Prof with a 16bit graphic setting, and LW 2.9.10 Pro, yet I don't see any striping ? Is it only for the MacOS X release ?

ErikB5 May 5th, 2003 03:07 PM

My mistake, I need new glasses, the stripes are so faint, I don't see them.

sberlin May 5th, 2003 07:17 PM

they're meant to be faint enough so as not to make the display noisy, but strong enough to keep your eye focused while scanning through the row's information. if they're too faint, we can do something about that, but we're very cautious about making the interface too noisy.

Thanks for the work on the stats sam-they've been a great help seeing what's happening.

Is anyone else finding 1% upload success normal? Here's a fairly typical shot of what my uploads have been doing with 2.9.10 in the last 2 weeks. Connections typically start with a 30 KB/s burst, followed by a ~20 second pause, and after a few such cycles, are interrupted. I think I'm the only source for the .dmg file.

trap_jaw2 May 11th, 2003 10:34 AM

A queued client will send you an upload request every minute or so. Such an upload request will be counted as unsuccessful upload.

stief May 11th, 2003 10:39 AM

Thanks--so the stats are "normal"?. Too bad the upload spikes aren't joined at the tips.
