LimeWire 3.7.7 Beta We've released the LimeWire 3.7.7 beta, with the pro version available from a link on your pro download page, and the free version available from the LimeWire download page. [edit 1/18: URL changed to point to the beta, not the last stable version] This version includes many small fixes over 3.6.6. The "Stop" button in 3.7.7 on the search tab has been moved from the lower left of the window to the button row below the search results. This more accurately reflects the fact that the Stop button stops individual searches. This version also improves the handling of your save directory and fixes a large number of smaller issues over 3.6.6. Windows free users will also enjoy us dropping fewer icons on your desktop with this version. Thanks for everyone's great help testing the betas! The 3.7 series is stabilizing nicely. -LimeWire Team |
I've reverted to 3.7.6 since 3.7.7 only allowed 24 outgoing UP connections and no leaf nodes to connect even after 8 hours. 3.7.7 did allow better connections to BS UP's, but also reduced my uploads to almost none. I sent in a bug report this morning. (OS 10.2.8--high port number forwarded through a Linksys lan). btw Adam--is NIO implemented? |

LOL. Why? (Happy new year trap_jaw: glad to see you posting actively again. Hope your projects were successful, and LW didn't send the Linux users a Limeshop for Christmas) Cheers |
Frohes neues Jahr, stief (as we would say in Germany). I'm using Windows XP at the moment. Linux and my new laptop didn't get along too well so I figured I might as well go back to the evil empire. Fortunately LimeWire works on Windows almost as good as on Linux. My other projects were not quite as successful as I hoped but that's another story. |
Yup - I believe something screwy has been introduced in 3.7.7 (possibly 3.7.6) w.r.t. uploads. With 12 upload slots, I'm typically seeing 3-4 active and 9 items queued. |
hi is it just me but when i put the black theme it dosent wurk onley the text is black the rest is the same as norm im on mac os 9.1 this was the same on the last beta hope i found it ferst if so yay ferst prob i found if not well i tryed (well a bit eny way) o say if some one els found it:) |
emm i just tryed to tern LW off and all that hapend is it's gone gray its still on emm help i want it off now eny help |

I'm missing something, I guess. I clicked on the link to download the beta 3.7.7. I got the message that it might show 3.6 but the installer would be the correct one. I originally had 3.6.15. The download went OK and then it installed. BUT the icon on the desktop says 3.6.15 and ABOUT says 3.6.15. ????? dd |
You didn't download the beta, you downloaded the last stable version. Betas are available under: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/beta.shtml . |
Salut guys, here is a bug report with theme switching on osx: when swithing to a non default os x theme and then switch back, the fonts are smaller (i.e. look at the number of shared files on the low left). If you repeat the same steps as above more times, fonts become non readable. Merci |
Salut/Grüße/greets all The theme switching affects info text on OS 10.2 also (and in the stats). Jens-Uwe's latest CVS build (jum268) includes whatever additons that fixes the UP connections I'd noticed earlier (though only Shareaza seems to be able to connect regularly). I'm not seeing any BearShares or Morpheus UP's connecting though, and average upstream bandwidth still seems low. I do see current rates of 105KB/s for minutes at a time, but overall average is less than 50KB/s. I'm used to expecting ~ 65KB/s (1 slot per person; 100KB/s limit set). I like the "Connection Quality" info. Can we get more info on what the ranges are, or if there are categories beyond "TurboCharged"? The Netbeans window--not sure what to make of this. If it allows scripting, then maybe the checknat Applescript Chris Platts wrote for checking that gnutella ports were open on OSX can be adapted for all users Cheers |

Salut Stief, 1 UP = poor 2 = fair 3 = good 4 = excellent 5= turbocharged 6 = turbocharged 32 up (you as UP) = turbocharged Morpheus leaves and Up cannot connect to you when you are ultrappeer (to avoid their leeching and to avoid increasing query traffic cause by them). I have Bearshare's UP sometimes but most are dumb old GnuDNA (gnucleus, Mynapster etc...) The netbeans is included by Jens and is a java terminal (I think) and it is not included by LW developpers. It must help him modifying LW at ease when running it. Ciao |

There is nothing beyond turbo charged, it is just a rough measure of the perceived connection quality. Turbo charged means 5 or more stable connections as leaf or 10 or more as ultrapeer. The BeanShell (not NetBeans - that is an entirely different kettle of fish) view is for programmers mostly, and is unique to the jum build. It is not enabled by default, you have to turn it on like the connection view. It allows one to inspect the innards of LimeWire and to extend it while it is running. I did include a sample LimeWire.bsh script inside the disk image, if you copy that to your LimeWire preferences folder new functions and a menu are added. I tried the script at that location - it was not able to find my computer's real IP address. But a feature like that should be prominently at the first start of LimeWire and not hidden away in a feature mostly intended for programmers and advanced users. |
Thanks for the comments/info. I had thought I'd seen BeanShell in the Pro version too, so reinstalled the Pro (it still overwrites the running LW), but no NetBean Shell in View->Show/Hide. @trap_jaw: I've decided to continue my little support to the LW project, but I'll recommend the jum builds to OSX users irritated by LimeShop. Do you know of a similar link for users of other platforms? Seems to me that the some of the open source spirit can be preserved that way and support for the developers (rather than the business office) can limp along with the voluntary model then. The introduction of a LimeShop that is not as easily uninstalled is a bad move. Mac users have so little education with that stuff so it's a real FUD magnet. I am not looking forward to defending LW to my colleagues who were afraid of spystuff/virii/other Windows fears. Nor am I looking forward to testing how to uninstall LimeShop when they ask. Most of them will avoid p2p entirely if it means having to carefully read EULA's. but back to the connection quality--looks like a good move towards setting up a plan to test gnutella connectivity. I hope the next step will be more detailed messages and links/inclusion of something like the checkNAT I linked to earlier: that will at least give users some more info on why they can't connect. I recall a link detailing the Pro/Basic differences, but can't find it. Cheers |
>but I'll recommend the jum builds to OSX users irritated by LimeShop Take a closer look at 3.7.7. :) |
It's gone? I don't want to risk installing the basic ;) |
:D oui its gone, but doesn't have the connection levels as the jum build (3.7.7 is old already;) ). ciao |

Really, I can't see much difference. Thanks, dd |
And in the latest build I just did (269) I also increased the number of preferred connections for leaves to 6, just like the pro build (in the CVS it is only 4). This way one gets TurboCharged connections more easily. :-) |
I have DSL with bellsouth.net and more often than not my d/l speeds are still in the 3 - 5 kb/s range. Sometimes I will get a fast one ... what *I* consider fast - 20 - 30 kb/s but it is an ocassion for great end zone celebration. Suggestions? Thanks. dd |

Still don't know of any newbies who know how to compile, though. :) So--will a gnutella connection quality tester be on your list of projects? |

I have no idea about LimeWire's financial situation so I can't really comment on how necessary it is for them to bundle LimeShop / TopMoxie. Btw. if you want to see the budget of an average file-sharing company, take a look at the official soulseek budget: http://soulseeks.netfirms.com/ If LimeWire had similar expenses, they'd have to pay easily 20,000 dollars/month for booze and hookers. Considering that they're lucky if they break even. Quote:

No help I've switched over to 3.7.7 as was recommended in a different thread, however, my problems still persist.(See my recent thread if you can help) |
Two other bugs in 3.7.8 1) when two search tabs are open if you do the repeat search on the left tab, the search is initiated on the right tab. 2)vendors ID are still sometimes random symbols (and yes they are really Limewires) Others: -as usual you can't browse other vendor in upload window apart LW even if acquisitions and bearshare support it -when switching back to osx theme after using another one, fonts are still smaller Old feature requestL limit the number of simulataneous uploads of one file (to keep your slots open for other files less popular) Merci |

(BTW -Jum build related- I prefer having 4 UP connections as a leaf than 6, is there a way in the Jum build to choose the number of connections?) Merci, Danke |

Mamamia! Merci beaucoup, you' da' man Jens! |
