MP3 previewed in LW during download does not play in windows media player

MP3 previewed in LW beta version, during download (like half way through) doesnot play in windows media player 9,
I get an error, cannot recognize the file format. Though it plays in LW inbuilt/default player.

Is there a way of recoding an existing MP3.
I think, changing it to wav and back to mp3 should work?

Any ideas??
Thanks a bunch!

Most probably, what you downloaded was not an MP3. Some files on the Gnet are fake shares, or shared despite they were corrupted (virus, system failure/hang, filesystem corruption...)

However you should know that Windows Media Player's MP3 codec doesnot support all valid MP3 formats. Notably, it will fail with some MP3 files containing some ID3v2 metadata tags. Also, it will fail with some combinations of encoding rate/quality, audio channels count, or if the MP3 contains some other MPEG elements like a small video or a JPEG image...
The support of MP3's in Windows Player is very limited.

There's a few apps out there that can do it. Apparently QLC (free app) can also convert b/w formats. What's more it'll play wma files. (not need to be continually getting need codec/licencing probs with wmp.) It's worth a look at & can convert what you're asking. As long as the file is not courrupted in the 1st place.

there's also nimo http://www.divx-digest.com/software/nimo_pack.html
which solved problems but as mentioned before it might just be a fake you'd atleast 10 to make shure you have a codec problem
