Problems with Cable Modem

Hey Y'all,

I'm having a bit of a problem with LimeWire at the moment, and I was wondering if anyone out there could be of any help. I'm using LimeWire 4.0.8 (the free version) on Windows XP, and back when I had a dial-up Modem (despite the slow download speeds), it worked great. But the thing is, I just got a cable modem, and while I can still connect and download stuff, there seem to be way less people on it. When I check to see how many hosts there are, it only comes up with a couple of hundred. I know they're out there, and I'm wondering if maybe there's something that's blocking them from me. Anyway, any help anyone could give me on this subject... I'd be eternally greatful...

P.S. LimeWire kicks ***!!

If you have already setup windows xp firewall to allow needed ports you use in limewire and that doesn't help, you can try useing a different port since some internet service providers are limiting speed and or blocking some ports used by file shareing programs.

You could try useing a random port in the 50000-60000 like "50012" and make sure you setup the udp and tcp setting in windows xp firewall correctly.

If you own a router or are useing a home networking setup you may also need to setup port forwarding on that device too.

Check your internet service providers contract you recieved when you signed up, most state they have unlimited internet a month. But here is the catch read their fine print: basicaly it states the contract can be altered at any time by them and you are still bound by law to follow it.

I almost for got to tell you a secret most internet service providers don't tell you untill you have major problems with you cable modem.

All cable modems lose sync sometimes, if it gets to slow for all internet access all of a sudden for no reason, you need to "cycle its power" bascialy you need to shut it off for 15-20 secounds and then turn it back on and wait about 2-3 minutesyou should be back at a faster speed.
