LimeWire 4.1.9 Beta

The LimeWire 4.1.9 beta has been released. Pro users can download it from their personal download page. The free version is available at the LimeWire Beta Page.

Changes in LimeWire 4.1.9 include:
- Improved FW-FW download mesh.
- Increased the amount of people capable of doing a FW-FW transfer.
- Expect and ignore more errors when reading data from disk.
- Added support for deflated GGEP messages.
- Manually perform Garbage Collection on OSX, to reduce the VM size.
- Improved international font display.
- Optimized scanning for banned/whitelisted hosts.
- Encourage Windows users running Java 1.3 to upgrade to Java 1.4.
- Added a 'waking up' mode, after LimeWire wakes from idle mode.
- Check if settings have changed when the options window is closed, prompting the user to save.

LimeWire 4.2 is just around the corner. We hope to close out the last of the remaining bugs and release very soon. Thanks for everyone's help in testing the betas!

Thanks,
The LimeWire Team

LODR:
Odd numbers = betas
Even numbers = stable releases
So 4.1.x are betas and 4.0.x and 4.2.x are releases.

Ciao

LimeWire 4.1.10 is released. This is a very minor release, fixing a few small bugs in 4.1.9. Changes include:
- Limit concurrent connection attempts to 8 on Windows XP.
- More German translations (thanks to Jens-Uwe Mager).
- Better validation of network data on ping replies.
- Fixed whitespace on initial "Upgrade to Pro" message.

Thanks,
The LimeWire Team

LimeWire 4.2 has been around the corner for two and a half months ( see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=27672 and http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=27366 ). :D

EDIT
Okay, to be fair: it stepped up from "very close" to "around the corner" in that time.

sberlin November 10th, 2004 10:23 AM

Yeah. It's been a long two months.

The filesize on the download page for OSX is 3.8MB (Should be 5.2 MB).

(thanks for the changelog once again)

Splash screen stays on top of wizard

In LimeWire 4.1.9 beta, running in SuSE Linux 9.0 with java 1.5.0 installed, if you run LimeWire 4.1.9 for the first time (with no $HOME/.limewire existing), the splash screen for LimeWire stays directly on top of the wizard it shows, making it very difficult to even see what is in the wizard without dragging it around. In the splash screen's status, it is stuck saying "Loading HTML engine..." when the wizard is shown. As soon as one moves the wizard's window around (to see the choices and click the options) and completes the wizard, the splash screen finally goes away.

Weird. Thanks for letting us know, limenut.

wake up mode

nice finishing touch! Gives a positive vibe to the sleep mode. This puppy comes out of seep as if it is in a coma. I'm guessing it doesn't even wake to incoming searches!?

Re: wake up mode

Oops, I edited trap jaw's post by accident. Sorry trap jaw!

I think you said earlier, "The sleep mode is not too deep -- LimeWire still answers incoming searches."

--sberlin

I won't forget that!

Should we call it sleep mode instead of idle mode?

ElllisD November 11th, 2004 07:15 PM

hey the new text looks awesome!!!, however, the grey text "headers" above each menu sub-category (eg."save directory") makes my eyes hurt- a little darker/way lighter would be nice.

ive noticed already that the color on the que arrows comes n goes as often as the bottom bar did in 418.

whats sleep mode?

btw: l/w only knocked out my internet connection once in 418...good job!

"Switching to Full Search Mode from Saver Mode"

Saver mode. Saves downloads, uploads, cycles and bandwidth. Full connections are needed only for more searches.

OS's that put the computer to "Sleep" break connections, whereas screensavers don't.

Better save than sorry.

This new version (says 4.1.10 Pro) loads much quicker and searches and produces results much quicker than previous version , thank you LimeWire.

Credits were ticked to scroll but they weren't doing this automatically, so I unticked and re-ticked this box and it did..

New Manual for LWPro V4.2

Dear LW People

Will there be a new or updated manual when LWPro 4.2 is finally released?

I think there's a few points on the official LW site FAQ page that could be updated as well. Certainly for the LW 4 release some of these suggestions on the FAQ don't apply. Although there still are LW 2 & 3 users out there.
