Unfortunately I don't speak Japanese unless you can read Chinese. I can't read your text. What's the problem?

As I initially thought, a practical joke. You can type in english text using great grammar. I have Japanese font enabled & still can't get the text to show in Japanese. Yet I can get other asian text to show when needed.

Unfortunately, I picked up the only japanese I know from subtitled hentai animes, however if http://babelfish.altavista.com is correct, he is trying to say that he updated to LimeWire 4.2.8 (? I think that should be 4.2.6) and now he's having problems with characters of some kind. Apparently there is a problem with the transformation of unicode Strings in search results, - it's hard to tell from the gibberish Babelfish returns.

Keita, my advice would be to update to LimeWire 4.3.1 ( http://www.limewire.com/english/content/beta.shtml ) which, IIRC, had a ICU4j fix of some kind.

EDIT: Also, asking in English is a really good idea, - or maybe there are enough japanese users on these boards to open up a japanese language forum? I don't mind continuing using Babelfish, OTOH.

Apologies! I obviously set something up incorrectly. I did restart my browser, perhaps I need to restart my comp. Oh well. I don't speak Japanese anyway, though depending on which text they're using I can often get the jist of what's said if it's using the (mind block) Japanese version of Chinese. I just don't understand it word by word.

trap_jaw4 the translation services like babelfish & systram are word by word & often miss an accurate translation if it's a greater than simple sentence. I use it myself & found the same.

LotR, you must not make the mistake of expecting Babelfish to translate from one language into another. Babelfish translates everything to Babelfish and offers versions of that translation in various languages.

Fair enough! Are you saying you can't read my chinese or japanese or both. I got lazy. For a start I wanted to translate chinese into traditional chinese not simplified chinese. Then I wanted it to translate to japanese as an after thought. I didn't use Babelfish, I used systram b/c I think it's better. I suspect my chinese grammar for japanese shouldn't be too far off, since they do use similar ... no I'll leave that up to Verdyp to answer. lol :D OK perhaps I shouldn't have even started.!

How are you trying to download these files? Are you attempting to do it using Magnetmix?
Or download using a "magnet" link?

What is Java?


The problem is this.
There is a file that cannot be downloaded.

trap_jaw4 & sberlin would be able to tell you what Java is better than me.

Java is the program language that Limewire uses to operate. If your version of Java is old, it might have some difficulty with some operations. That is why it should always be kept up to date. Newer Java is faster & better for Limewire. Get newest Java (get the JRE) here: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/ja/download.html

Limewire 4.0.7 ? I think it is in Japanese but I could be wrong. If the installer does not give you choice of language in Japanese then maybe the answer is no. If no, try the Beta version 4.3.2. The Beta version is safe to use! :)

Follow the instructions on the Java installer. It should be in Japanese language. Java should be installed into the System.

Kombawa Keita I do better in repongi. If you all need future help in Japanese, Thai, Korean and/or French in the future I can do a direct translation. I can read and write these languages. Hope you get it resolved. These people trying to help are the experts not me. I just read alot and remember it.

Your problem was with your older version of Limewire. Are you still having problem?

Konichi wa I'm still around I'm attempting to find the right characters sets, but am working on it. Please bear with me, doing the best I can.:o The ones I've tried so far keep giving me unreadable characters. Well I'm not so bright sometimes figured out one of the problems It would help If I had the right key board. I will look for one in my area, but think I will have to order it.

"Shift-JIS" is not a keystroke on a keyboard. It's a encoding for the Japanese character sets, which uses sequences of 1 (for ASCII characters), 2 (for Hiragana, Katakana, extended Latin, and basic Kanji), or 4 (for extended Kanjis) bytes to encode each character.

The full name of the standard is a number like JISX-0208. On Windows, the Japanese ANSI codepage is based on an extension of the JISX standard, but is commonly refered to as "Shift-JIS" or "SJIS". The full Japanese standard is based on ISO2022, in a Japanese profile, that selects several encoding mechanisms.

In a browser, you generally have a menu option that allows you to change the way the HTML pages should be decoded, in the case where the content of the page is not readable with the autoselected character set, or when the page contains a reference to a character set encoding that is not the one used in the actual content.

This is the case of this thread: the HTML page specifies the ISO-8859-1 encoding, but Japanese users have posted here their message by setting their borwser so that they will send SJIS-encoded characters. So they don't display well, and this have to be changed manually.

Unfortunately, this forum does not encode the main page with a Unicode encoding like UTF-8, and the forum has currently no support for transcoding all incoming messages into Unicode UTF-8.
It would be easier for everyone if the whole forum site was UTF-8, because everybody could use the forum and compose with its native character sets.

Thank you for the informative response. I figured the shift-JIS out a couple of weeks ago, and understand somewhat of what your talking about. I have already run into this problem.

But I have noticed if I switch everything over to Japanese/Nippon including the keyboard I don't have as many problems. I do this once or twice a week just to check out LW and Japanese websites.

BTW: Even though I'm not from Japan I have lived there. I have also taken the Japanese translation test: 2 in the USA and 1 in Japan - Yamasa Institute. Results. Both USA - 100% speaking, 100% reading, 100% writing. Yamasa Institute 98% speaking, 99% reading, 97% writing. The reading and writing portions encompassed all 4 written forms.

I may not know much in certain areas, but in others I'm quite able to hold my own.
