Limewire 4.8 - security issue

Anyone got ideas about the message when LW starts up "upgrade to limewire 4.8, this is a security upgrade" or something like that..what's the security issue then?

Or is this manipulation by fear? - christ..I'm starting to sound like David Icke LOL!

More information about the issue will be available on Monday. We do recommend you upgrade.

no security issue, just a way to bump up downloads from download.com, they want to pass Ad-aware in weekly downloads, and they want to pass Morpheus' 131 Million downloads and Kazaa' 375 Million downloads is all :) hahaha

thanks guys. A balanced response - one from each end of the spectrum, with a bit of intrigue thrown in.. can't wait till monday

What? its true. lmao

Sexy9182 March 12th, 2005 10:11 AM

they didn't tell the security issue now, because they had to take time to think of something to call a security issue, they prob made a security issue up! hahaha

one more thing, have you seen the way Download.com advertise LimeWire too? God

gbildson March 12th, 2005 10:25 AM

You keep that in mind when Monday roles around.

In the meantime, I'd highly recommend that all users upgrade to a version of 4.8 or 4.0.10 for Mac Classic users. We are not messing around here folks.

Thanks

Sexy9182 March 12th, 2005 10:54 AM

So what's going to happen on Monday? v6.0? then Evening comes and v20.0 is released? by next week we'll be on v50.0

Sexy9182 March 12th, 2005 10:56 AM

Hi Mod - ok I'll be upgrading after Monday. In the mean time would you suggest I stop using Limewire for my own sake?

I had trouble with a java upgrade when moving upto the version of LW I'm running now -4.6. I think some how Java 1.3 and 1.5 got minced together... I know that this would not apply this time since I have the latest java and it's sorted now - but you're taking to a person who's watch does mysterious things unless I wear it on my wrist in a special way, lol - so I'm kinda cautious about changing things without good reason.

Java 1.3 is obsolete. The newest versions of LW were designed using Java 1.4.x for a start. So I can verify that obsolete versions of Java can cause problems. By the way, despite the site might say version 4.6 now it's actually 4.8.1 Unless you downlded your version a week ago or there-abouts.

Thanks. Good job they had the foresight to make it opensource code.
