Wondering about Uploading to others

I have always wondered why people who are searching for a file that I have are unable to connect allot of the time. Or maybe I don't completely understand the hits column. The way I understand it the hits column list quarries/searches for a file. So if this is the case then why when there are multiple hits listed and the number of allowed uploads is seldom reached or my Upload bandwidth is hardly ever maxed do the vast majority of hits never connected.

I am behind XP firewall and it is configured properly but it does not matter if it is on or off. I am also using a Linksys router that has a NAT firewall but I use UPnP and my IP address is a reachable IP Address 67.XXX.XXX.49 and it doesn't matter if I am going through the router or not. Also when I used Port Forwarding it was the same.

Anyway I will do some Stack Traces and post them in this thread if I am just wasting my time let me know or if I am using the wrong filter I will make them with com.limegroup.gnutella.* to start with or if another is more appropriate let me know.

Current set up is

Windows XP Pro Firewall enabled and configured
Comcast Cable 775KB/s DL / 49KB/s UL
Linksys router BEFSR41 ver3
Marvel Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller
Driver 8.49.2.3 Provider Marvell 1/4/2006
Network connections is set up as local area connection, Obtain an IP address automatically / Obtain an DNS server address automatically / DHCP enabled.

i see no problems with the way you are describing the situation.

i can search the gnet for something and you might respond with a query response, aka "hit", but i do not have to download your file that you are advertising to me. because i am a picky user (not a common mind-set that luser filesharers have, but eh.) or they just picked the file that had the most hosts. all-in-all, its nothing to worry about and its left up to the user whether or not they will download your file.

Thanks for the explanation ultracross.

The scenario given above was for a folder of rare and hard to find files I share when I share them 1 or 2 days a week I share only that folder. I guess I didn't think about others having the files and people having a choice of who to download from.
