4.11.1

Hi Guys, I have a problem (again lol)
I have installed the Beta LW and I downloaded a couple of songs and it was running great, but now I cant even open the bloody thing it just does nothing...
I cant run the Beta Java either because it wont work with some of the other stuff on the comp...
should I just go back to the other LW???

Lord of the Rings May 28th, 2006 03:30 PM

Well you'll need at least Java 1.5 for the beta. Before you do anything like uninstalling, try deleting the LW prefs folder whilst LW is closed. Keep in mind they could be in either of 2 locations so check both locations. Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)
BTW which programs won't run with the Java beta?

Grandpa May 28th, 2006 03:36 PM

It is starting to sound like 4.11.1 is a little buggy you can report the problem to the link below.

Lord of the Rings May 28th, 2006 03:38 PM

There's a lot of changes in the engine room for this beta so I guess it's not surprising there's some bugs. Perhaps I should have waited for 4.11.2 before I recommended it. oops

wondering why May 28th, 2006 04:00 PM

Hi, I have Java 1.5 update 6
The Beta Java wont run with Runescape an online game my son is addicted to and it made his MSN account play up as well...
I will get onto the Pref folders now and I will post back to you...

Id love to fix this as when I did download an MP3 last night I had 1 host and I was getting 17KB/s from it...;)

wondering why May 28th, 2006 04:17 PM

I've done the steps but this is what happens

The message says Cannot delete 411 splashpro.png it is being ues by another person or program

wondering why May 28th, 2006 04:22 PM

Ok rebooting now ;)

Lord of the Rings May 28th, 2006 04:24 PM

Easiest way would be to reboot. It sounds like LW is not properly shutdown. Wait a while.
Control-Alt-Del & bring up Process Manager to see if LW is still listed.

wondering why May 28th, 2006 04:33 PM

It is still running, whats the best way to reboot pull the plug at the wall???

Grandpa May 28th, 2006 04:35 PM

If it is still listed you can follow the instructions in the link below to shut it off.

wondering why May 28th, 2006 04:36 PM

It doesn't say its running in that part

Lord of the Rings May 28th, 2006 04:36 PM

Erm ... you have 3 listed ... that ain't good at all! No wonder you were having problems. I'm not sure how you can still have them running after rebooting. Shutdown & then restart should do the trick. Wait a few mins before restarting.

BTW do a computer search for limewire & see what you come up with. I wonder if there's more than one version installed. Check their sizes to see if they are actually programs.

It doesn't say they're using the CPU but total CPU was 0%. They shouldn't be listed. And certainly not 3 of them!

wondering why May 28th, 2006 04:38 PM

OK doing that now

wondering why May 28th, 2006 04:50 PM

ok its gone after ending the process, now do I go back and do the Prefs folder stuff...

Grandpa May 28th, 2006 04:51 PM

That is a problem that has been around for a while it happens when you are installing LimeWire/Java on Windows and it hangs during installing Java. Each time you try to reinstall it starts another install and it hangs at the same spot. Re booting will do no good they will just start back up when Windows starts back up. The only way I know of to stop it is to do so through the Task Manager. Open the task manager back up stay on the processes page highlight each instance of LimeWire exe. then click on end process. This should stop them if it doesn't you will have to delete the LimeWire folder or folders and edit the registry.

wondering why May 28th, 2006 04:54 PM

I took a screen shot of LW search

Grandpa May 28th, 2006 05:05 PM

Do you currently have LimeWire installed

wondering why May 28th, 2006 05:08 PM

Yes it was working last night.....

Grandpa May 28th, 2006 05:11 PM

OK go ahead and try the .limewire fix the lord suggested. If that doesn't work you may have to uninstall 4.11.1 and then reinstall 4.11.0 I see you still have the installer. Use the offline Java installer though and install it first.

wondering why May 28th, 2006 05:13 PM

Its fixed I deleted the folder after I ended the process in the Task manager
Thankyou Guys big hugs

wondering why May 28th, 2006 05:16 PM

Guess what though Im behind the firewall again and not all my files are being shared....

Grandpa May 28th, 2006 05:17 PM

Good to hear it's fixed

Lord of the Rings May 28th, 2006 05:28 PM

Did you delete the .limewire or limewire prefs folder?

Give LW time to settle down & see if you're still behind a firewall. If yes, go back to Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & make sure your port forwarding setting is enabled. You port forwarded right?

wondering why May 28th, 2006 05:33 PM

I deleted the .limewire I think (how embarassing)
Its slowly reloading all my files...
I'll give it some time and let you know...thankyou for your help..;)

Grandpa May 28th, 2006 05:42 PM

Which version are you running now.

wondering why May 28th, 2006 05:49 PM

4.11.1
Have I done something wrong or is this what happens when you delete the folder....
Also at the top of the LW screen there was a tab to see what UPs you have, its not there is that usual...

wondering why May 28th, 2006 05:52 PM

dont worry I found it in Veiw

Lord of the Rings May 28th, 2006 05:56 PM

Did you set port forwarding again within LW? Yes after deleting the prefs you need to reset this. From memory you port forwarded some time back right? If I delete my prefs I also have to reset the firewall setting within LW.

sberlin May 28th, 2006 07:06 PM

There's a bug with 4.11.1 PRO on Windows that if your preferences directory is .limewire instead of Application Data/LimeWire, it won't start up after the first run (the first will work, the second and later attempts won't). You can fix it by deleting the .limewire directory (which will cause LimeWire to use Application Data/LimeWire instead for this and future runs). It's already fixed in our development version and will be in the next release.

For this and future beta bug reports, please use: http://www.limewire.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=75 .

Thanks.

Hi Guys, Sorry that I have not been here during all the excitment, my sister dragged me out, she was buying a new car...
Anyway Im a little confused with it all lol...
LW is opening fine now and all my files are shared again, but the firewall is still there, now I still have all the instructions from when I port Forwarded awhile back do I do this again or is there an easier way...

I dont mind if you use this thread to help others....;)
Cheers

Lord of the Rings May 28th, 2006 09:28 PM

It should just be a simple matter of turning port forward on in the LW settings. That's how it was for me. You shouldn't need to port forward again. You might need to re-open LW however after making such a change! I can't remember. At least try using the Apply button to see if it takes immediate effect.

Grandpa May 28th, 2006 09:34 PM

You just need to remember which port # you have set up for limewire then enter it into limewire port forward settings.

It really didn't matter which version you used they both said basically the same thing.

wondering why May 28th, 2006 09:38 PM

Ahhh all fixed I changed the firewall settings in LW like you suggested, I just forgot to change both options the first time.....
So Im all fixed ..... thankyou so much for everyones help....
I bet you feel a bit drained from all of this...As I said before Big Hugs to you all ;)

Lord of the Rings May 28th, 2006 09:42 PM

Oh I did forget to remind about making sure the port numbers were right. Oh well... good to hear it's ok now! :)
