Why was multiple source Download never implemented????

This is the biggest feature that is missing from gnutella, and so far, XoloX is the only one who has implemented it. XoloX had other problems as a client that prevented it from its full potential, however the simple fact that you could download from multiple sources, made it kick the crap out of all other clients speed wise.

WHY DOESN'T LIMEWIRE SUPPORT MULTIPLE SOURCE DOWNLOADS????

I THINK THIS IS WHAT THE GNUTELLA CLIENTS NEED MORE THAN ANYTHING!!!

on xolox, it was common to see download speeds of over 100K/S!!!

i have NEVER seen a DL that fast on Limewire or Bearshare!!!

whats the deal? Multiple source downloads has one of the major requests of clients for a long time, and yet it seems nothing has been done about it!

I'm a hardcore LimeWire fan, hence my name for one thing. I didnt like the adversiting too much either when I first heard about it. But if you think about it LimeWire, Inc. is trying to make a public decentralized P2P network. Which means P2P networks like morpheus is pretty much funded by a company, MusicCity has set up connections to be supernodes which means they can/could be sued like Napster and maybe end of losing. Then the network would be no more. With the Gnutella network there is no central server to take down. It would be virtually impossible to take down. I've been using LimeWire for the past year. I've seen tons of improvements to the gnutella network with the usage of LimeWire gnutella servants. The reason it doesnt have alot of "features" or the same "features" as some of ther P2P network clients have is b/c they're like 10+ different gnutella clients that use the network. They're trying to introduce new technologies without harming the current network structure. Thats why they release clients with just a few features over a period of time. I mean you wouldnt want to have like 100+ features of a new release and then 10,000+ downloads of then clients b/c its pretty much a 100% chance it would mess up the whole gnutella network leaving everyone in the dark (I mean a few LimeWire releases have had connections problems). First they have to improve the structure (stability....connections), querying and routing (ping, pong, and searching), then they can focus on new technologies such as swarmed downloading and etc. So in time....gnutella is going to be the fastest and biggest P2P ever and there would be no way of taking it down. Another thing that is cool is that LimeWire, Inc is offering all of this for free. Which means I would like them to continue the LimeWire project and make more improvements to the gnutella network. So I dont mind having a small ad at the bottom of my screen. Actually I dont even notice it. You can also donate money if you like. Also its not spy-ware, its just sending data back and forth to the ad server to retrieve the different ad images. I believe LimeWire when they say they dont use spy-ware. I mean if you dont like, use some other client :x. About the network statistics, in the older versions if you used a TTL higher than 7 it would have interconnections to the same host, in which host X might be 6 hops away and also 9 hops away. Meaning you getting dup stats and twice more traffic than you really need. But as far as LimeWire, Inc taking away the statistic information they didnt. Go to Options > Statistics ...its that simple. Just remember 1000MB = ~1GB, 100,000 = ~100GB, and 1,000,000 = ~1TB, it shouldnt get higher than that unless you have some type of T3+ connection. Well I hope this has cleared some issuses that have been out in the open. Later.

I posted that about a week and a half ago. Disregard the points about the spyware. I didnt want to rewrite what I have already written. But most of it does apply to what YOU think the gnutella network needs.

As far as I have been part of the gnutella and limewire history I can say that it is true that there have been lots of bad downloads and stuff like that in the past. and i have to commit i didn't have one of them yet - since i use the limewire 1.8b...

BUT Limewire used to have more futures that it now leaks!
- Browse Host it's still advertised as a feature but it's not there anymore.- Connection selection was really usefull! I don't need to be connected to all those porn servers!
- I also had better search results with that feature. now i try to look for a song that has been on the radio for weeks and i can't find it! the whole group virtually disappeared. and i can't change anything about it cause i rely on the automatic connections and some luck.

- and what the h*** do we need a chat for?! About a year ago the gnutella dev community (which i believe limewire also belongs to) removed every kind of chat from the gnutella protocoll and from the clients due to bandwidth. i couldn't say that I have any bandwidth to share or to spill around for chat. there is no need for it - no one would like to tell you his or her address in chat just because you're so nice. since you have a harddrive full of illegal copys and you use a network that's hard to trace back to real life persons... and since it's p2p - how would i ever find my chat buddy again?

correct me if i'm wrong and i'm just to dumb to find the functions i miss.

They trying to implement better where it actually works.

I'm pretty sure over 80% of files shared are mp3s, so I wouldnt worry about not being connected to enough mp3s.

They're trying to work on bandwidth issues for dial-up hosts (assuming that is you) with supernodes and other technologies they're developing, patience is everything.

This was just a "feature" that everyone seemed they wanted. But only LimeWire supports it at the moment, I think. Its just for communication for people sharing. For example, for some reason you can get a file you want, you message that host and make some arrangement. Its not meant to replace current instant messaging technologies.

Ok that is simply false. Its VERY VERY easy. Gnutella clients do not hide your identify at all. I'm not sure were you got that impression at. Its has simple as someone searching for something and connecting to you (via your IP address) to download whatever it is. Its not hard at all...

Do you even know what the term 'P2P' means?

P2P = Peer 2 Peer

It has nothing to do with what you're speaking of.

Thats why you tell them you're email or other IM name.

Actually, Gnotella 1.2.0 beta supports it as well, but I think it is not compatible with Limewire's chat.

Well, since noone else answered your question, I will. LW 1.9 will have multi-source downloads and supernodes! These should also be available in BS 3.0.

If you just cant wait, head over to www.limewire.org and download the latest source code, compile it, and you will have a client w/ the feature your looking for (and no ad-ware either).

What are you talking about? I answered all his questions....
