Clean LW 2.1.3 is ready

You heard it : CLW 2.1.3 is ready !
Download it here : http://users.pandora.be/karel.boonen...s/LimeWire.exe

We also included the Flash tour so new users can get the basics right .

We now built a routine into the installer to neuter CyDoor if anyone is switching over from "Official" LW to "Clean" LW .
You can also install this version ontop of any previous version of CLW .

I dont believe it!
Lime wire has f****d up again. You would think that after fiasco and bad press they had recieved when they released 2.0.3 with virus and spy-ware, they would have learned!
No such luck!

2.1.3 installs spy ware as well!!!
if you installed 2.1.3 (regardless wheather you opted out of extra insalls) check your ProgamFiles directory for "topMoxie" folder. it contains JavaRun.exe which will connect to internet and send info about your system without your knowledge.

LW, you really suck!!!!

VTOLfreak January 27th, 2002 01:54 PM

Then use CLW 2.1.3 !
It can disable CyDoor when you install it .

No removal function for TopMoxie yet . :(
But were working on it ...

Unregistered January 27th, 2002 02:25 PM

I did use it, thanks.

I was able to remove topMoxi from my registry by hand. I would not recommend that option to anyone not familiar with the registry, it could really mess up your system.
However if you feel confident enough go for it, it worked for me.

Also, I would strongly reccomed using a two-way fire wall (such as Zone Alarm). It will alert you to any software on your computer trying to establish link with the web. If I did not have it installed I would still be running all the spy ware LimeWire 2.0.3 installed.

VTOLfreak January 27th, 2002 02:35 PM

I'm running ZoneAlarm Pro over a year now . :)

What did you alter in the registry ?
Whe can use all help we can get .

Unregistered January 27th, 2002 04:36 PM

well, I did not take exact notes when I was trying to fix it. The way I went about it was to perform a search for JavaRun.exe (that's the executeable fund in topMoxie directory) in the registry. There was only one entry to be removed. After that I also had to delete topMoxie directory from Program Files.
hope that helps.

Hey VTOLFreak, where did you get source for version 2.1.3? I can't seem to find it on Limewire.org

VTOLfreak January 28th, 2002 09:05 AM

We didn't , we edited the LimeWireNoVM.zip file in http://www.limewire.com/index.jsp/download_other .
Then we wrapped it up into an Installer .

The LW team only seems to release new source with mayor changes .

Anyway , you should be able to find it on limewire.org .
We can ! Look harder ... :p

topmoxie January 28th, 2002 05:50 PM

uninstall instructions are on the LimeWire site...

http://www.limewire.com/index.jsp/moxiefaq

(9) How do I uninstall LimeShop?

Go to Start ->>> Settings ->>> Control Panel. Double click "Add/Remove
Programs". Click "LimeShop", then remove.

Unregistered January 28th, 2002 08:02 PM

@1st unregistred: that trojan existed since beta 1.9 not 2.0.3 so if your angry at least have your facts strait.

@VTOLfreak: any chance you can release CLW w/o installer?
i really dislike installers and can just as easily copy files myself.
installer always make me fill like dev is trying to hide something during install...i know you don't. but your bandwidth will be that much smaller if ppl d/l nice small .zip/ace/rar/whatever than bigass installer .exe

VTOLfreak January 29th, 2002 11:45 AM

We used to put up zip files .
I'll ask TruStarWarrior .
Should be no problem . :)

BTW the installer is not "biggass" .
It only ads about 100 KB .
But it offers allot more help for newbies .
If you would compare a zipped one and the installer ,
you would be amazed what we can cram into that 100K . :)
Like an feature to disable CyDoor on people's systems ...

But I can see that plain zip files are better for advanced users .

CLW 2.1.3

Hey ... I read ... and I look for ...."suspect" .... anywhere!

No! NO!

I tried CLW 2.1.3 ... and it's true !!

No ads/spyware, no banners, nothing of nothing ....

Only the program .... and it works exactly like the original LimeWire 2.1.3!!!!!!

Try it!

VTOLfreak January 30th, 2002 01:45 PM

Thanks people , we are currently working on a removing feature in the installer for TopMoxie .
I'm also testing a CyDoor remover .

Unregistered January 30th, 2002 07:01 PM

not working

when i tried installing Clean Limewire, it doesn't run when finished (like the option is checked to do).. and it creates a Program Menu for Limewire, but doesn't have an icon to start it. And no icon on the desktop.

I tried "javaw "C:\Program Files\Clean Limewire 2.1.3\RunLime.jar" but that comes up with a "Cannot find main class" error. Same problem when i try it with Limewire.jar (I haven't run limewire in a while, so i can't remember what it's supposed to be.. although i'd assume it'd be RunLime.

anyway.. i can only assume its not installing all the files, for whatever reason.. any ideas for me?.. for this reason, a zip file would be great!.. hope you can get it up soon.

thanks for the hard work!

VTOLfreak January 31st, 2002 02:04 PM

Wich Windows version are you running ?

Unregistered February 1st, 2002 09:25 AM

Why all the bitching about spyware !!!! Who cares ?? All I want is a good program to share my music with. There is nothing sacride about the contents of my hard drive, or anyone else thats on here as well. Its not like there is anyone with top secret information on their computer that needs to be hush hush. If your that stupid or paranoid about some computer geek seeing what you have stored on your hard drive, I suggest getting rid of your computer and writing all of your top secret information down in a disposable notebook. As for me Limewire works great and if anyone is interested in seeing my hard drive with my music, resumes, games, etc. by all means, be my guest.

HeadHolio February 1st, 2002 10:01 AM

If you find it so easy to deal with spyware, then you'd think that it would be easy for you to deal with all this "bitching" as well ;)

is the spyware an issue with macintosh also?

Hi,

I'm pretty impressed that limwire forums is allowing this post to remain, nice going.

I use the macintosh os X version of limewire 2.1.3. I'm wondering if this version also comes bundled with unannounced spyware, and also if you guys are making a clean version ported to mac?

Thanks,
Gratis

TruStarwarrior February 3rd, 2002 06:26 PM

Mac Version of CLW

We don't have any Mac developers. Anyone want the job?

afisk February 15th, 2002 05:32 PM

The Mac version of LimeWire does not include any bundled software, or "spyware." This is rarely a concern on the Mac, as there's no bundled software that I've ever heard of that you could possibly use anyway!

TruStarwarrior February 15th, 2002 10:35 PM

That's a good point...
