speed download

My internet is 2mg and the downloads are 4kps-12kbps someone knows how to help me? I'm trying to solve this, changing the cofiguration but nothings make it better

Try downloading a file from here & see what speeds you get
http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml

Do a speed test & post the results
http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest?more=1

Have you used LW, or other p2p apps before & been able to download at a reasonable speed?
Do you see the firewall icon (brick wall)?
Who is your ISP?
If you've been able to download with fast speeds before, has anything changed (like ISP/plan, hardware etc) since then?
How many green connection bars do you see?

i dont mean to be highjacking your thread, i feel that we are in a similar boat, next week i will be back in china at 2M for the next three months, and i would really like to know how to increase mine and your speed to get the most out of this. and to understand as to what and why things are the way that they are....

Pine Sol,
Those magnetmix files should download really quickly... that's just a bit of a test. If they download slowly, it often means that an ISP is using traffic shaping & hence the slow downloads within LW too.

Check out this thread, it has good tips to set up LW for best performance
Configuring LW for best performance

thanks, i had noticed this thread from another thread, i had gone through all of the settings prior to that reading, with the only changes being increasing my upload speed, (6M down, 640kbs up). but then again being in southern china, im not really close to anyone.

I've had the same problems...shareaza does'nt even download hardly and now i DO SEE a brickwall infront of what look like a globe on my limewire....but it does'nt dissapear even if i try turning off windows xp firewall.

PLEASE can anyone help me?

birdy August 15th, 2006 03:25 PM

Make sure that you're only using 1 software firewall & that it's configured properly
Firewall setup
How many green connection bars do you see?
LW might be detecting a firewall within your modem/router. Read the UPnP & port forwarding info in the thread below. If your router supports UPnP, enable it & choose the UPnP option within LW's tools > options > advanced > firewall config. Otherwise, you might need to manually port forward.
Connection problems? Check here first!

Did you try downloading a magnetmix file? What speeds did you get?
If you're still stuck, post back with your details

OS(Win XP etc)
LW & Java version (help > about LW & you'll see)
Firewall you're using
Modem/router brand & model
ISP
Connection type (DSL etc)
Where you connect from (home, school etc)
Are you sharing a connection with other computers
Is this your first try with LW

Lord of the Rings August 15th, 2006 03:27 PM

Most likely your modem or router; see the sections here under upnp & port forwarding Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link). Most high speed modems & routers have internal NAT firewalls.

Oops ... sorry birdy ... I'm really slow at the moment ... slow motion. lol :D
