10 is the max for Pro users, 8 for basic users. I believe if you run as an ultrapeer you can get higher. But having never been a UP I can't confirm that. The reason for keeping the hosts per downld limited is to make sure everybody can get a connection to downld from. Otherwise people would hog heaps of hosts' upload slots & everybody else would be in queues for almost forever.

Actually 14 is the max for Pro and you don't need to run as a UP but you do need a good connection because you have to run as a T3 to get 14 and the min. UL setting for T3 is 97KB/s and if you don't have a fast connection you don't need more than 10.

You won't be able to connect to more than 5 Ultrapeers. That's the max. AFAIK.

To connect to more than 5 UltraPeers you will need to become an Ultrapeer yourself. To do this you need a fast connection and be able to recieve incoming (meaning no brickwall). I don't think it works using UPnP. You will need to use portforwarding in your router/modem and allow exceptions in your software firewall and maybe your router/modem as well. Your Modem/Router will also have to have the ability to deal with many connections at the same time and you'll have to run This Patch to get more halfopen connections (if using Windows XP with Service Pack 2)

I think the max is 32 Peers and 32 Leafs when running as an UltraPeer

(most I had is 26 and 31)

Or run LW and FW for a total of 8. But I'm not sure if there's any real advantage to doing this and it no doubt puts strain on the network.

It is actually not recommended to run 2 clients at the same time (maybe in the future with twin core CPU) since they will compete with each other for the half open connections and the available download speed. And what longterm effect it could have for the Java both use at the same time isn't clear either.

I have run both on several occasions testing the only problem I have ever noticed is not having enough UL bandwidth to handle all of the messaging required. I do have a AMD64 X2 Duel Core with 2Gigs of ram though. If you have enough bandwidth there should be no problem doing so. At least not that I have noticed.

I've run both on my 5 year old Atholon 1.3gig and the only problem I've noticed so far is they sometimes lose track of partial downloads. No doubt this is because I'm using the same download folder for both LW and FW. I should change that soon LOL.

I've compared results for identical searches and I'm finding new sources. So far it's worth it.
