'Awaiting sources' FOREVER!!!

Hi everyone.
Can somebody please tell me is it well worth the money going LimeWire Pro?
I am sick up to the back teeth of seeing 'need more sources' and 'awaiting sources'. I have been trying to download about 12 audio tracks for days on end now!!! And only succeeding most times in getting the first 2 bars to go green. ALOT of the time when I hover the mouse over them it just says 'you are currently connecting to the network'. I am continually connecting/disconnecting in the hope of obtaining a far better connection...ALL to no avail!:bangh:
I know as it says, the Pro Version will increase the download speed greatly, but that's not much use is it if their are no sources to start with!!!!!
By buying Pro can anyone tell me does it INCREASE your chances of finding more sources as well? And I suppose the bottom line is IS IT that much better after you've bought into it????
Thanks for hearing me out....Will be extremely grateful of any comments whatsoever.

Geoff.

I can twll you almost for sure that if you can't get Basic to work, then it's very unlikely that you will get Pro to work.

One of the biggest reasons for Limewire even having a Basic version that never expires is so that people get a chance to test out the software for as long as they like before buying Pro. This also gives them the right to say no refunds what-so-ever for Pro. as you already have had all the time in the world to try it before buying.

You should make a detailed post in the connection forum asking for help.

Example here:

Unfortunately that problem isn't fixed yet to my knowledge, but look at how detailed that first post is. It is definitely not lacking info keeping it from geing fixed.

Many thanks Sleepless for your comments...ALL info taken on board.

Since I tend to search for obscure files, I know the problem. We're all at the mercy of factors such as whether anyone even is hosting files we want, whether they are on-line, whether they are connected to our 5 ultrapeers, whether the same file has multiple names/variations so LW lists them as different files.

Pro allows you to connect to 5 ultrapeers thus increasing your chances to beat those odds. But sometimes stuff's that's tough to get. I'd suggest getting Pro. But you can also try some tricks like changing your list of ultrapeers... soing a search... and if nothing shows up, delete that list and try again. That can be done by going to VIEW. In SHOW/HIDE click on CONNECTIONS. This will open up a new tab showing the ultrapeers you're connected to. Right click on each and there will be a delete option. Since they regenerate quicky I'd advise using the Messages I/O column since it's easier to keep track of the ones you have yet deleted. They'll have the biggest numbers.

On rereading your post I see you're having a connection source problem more than a file source problem. Some UPs don't perform as well as others. So I'd still recommend trying to delete your list and trying again.

To add to that. I sometimes use browse host on them. If they are listed as modem under speed (Must be using some kind of Force UltraPeer fix) I delete them straight away as surely they can't handle the amount of I/O messages that they are suppose to. I often do they same to Cable/Dsl users (Not always though).

I BTW connect myself as an UP. but I do have and OK connection for doing so. 60 KB/s up, 250 KB/s down.

UP messages use about 10-15 KB/s each way at the most.

One of the most annoying features of limewire is that you cannot tell limewire to search for more sources when it is awaiting sources. It will say it is awaiting sources, but if I do a manual search I find four star sources. In Kazaa you could easily search for more sources, but for limewire it seems you can only do it once (then it is forever awaiting sources).

I only use limewire now, but I wish that this would be changed. A nice, one click find more sources would help with searching, and maybe it could also try finding new ultrapeers to find the file.

Where can send requests/suggestions for the next version of limewire? It seems hard to contact people unless you already bought pro?

There is a new BETA out. If you want to make suggestions on it then I would suggest you download the newest version. You will find the links you need in this thread:

Try it out for a while and then make suggestions on what to fix

Thanks sleepless. I think I will try that. But it is also odd that I forgot to mention that it is odd that there is not a way for limeware to try downloads that are awaiting sources automatically when it is not doing anything else. Still, limeware has been better than other places for sharing, it just takes more attention and work.

Awaiting sources means it's already tried but the sources aren't available. That's of course if they aren't fake files in the 1st place. Recognising fake files

LW doesn't automatically keep searching for sources because doing such would over-work the network & slow it down to a crawl. The traffic would be immense. It's an agreed Gnutella protocol not to.

The best way to find sources is to individually search for them; a separate search for each file that needs more sources.
