Licenses

I got a virus on my laptop recently and had to wipe out everything. Now that I reinstalled LimeWire, whenever I do a search my songs come up but they require a license to download and listen. Is there anyway to do a search without those songs that require a license?

wondering why October 10th, 2006 05:02 PM

Go to tools > options > searching > and untick the box and select apply...:rolleyes_2:

I am confused

Excuse me for being a newbie, I just paid for Limewire Pro for the sole purpose in seeing how it works on Linux since my wife is ready to move from windows, need I explain More! Anyway, she has 360sharepro which is offered on the same site as Limewire Pro. Here are her concerns as well as mine.
  1. With her Sharepro she rarely if any recieves this annoying pop up that states it can't find a lincense, proceed anyway? On occassion sharepro does say something but very rarely.
  2. Limewire Pro asks this for pracically every song
  3. It was suggested on this forum to disable the pop up, does this not go against the License agreement? I.E. copywrite.
  4. Sharepro and LimeWire are very similar in format, design etc. although one is for Windows and the other is for Linux. Why the difference in the License agreement?

I guess what I am trying to get here is, My wife doesn't care about the system she is on as long as she can do her music thing, but she has shown me signs of concern on the License thing. I have been testing LimeWire Pro, and it does run great, alot of music can be found, but I agree with her, the License thing does concern me too, reading all the stories and all.

Why did I pay for this.....One, I believe in GPU and donating, plus I wanted to see if Pro was much differnent from basic. The only similarity is that License thing.

that is a scam site...LW and 360 are in no way affiliated with each other

acquire LW pro here:http://www.limewire.com/english/content/home.shtml

I disagree

Maybe I was wrong on only one aspect of my statement, and that was comparing 360 to LW. When I went back on the official 360 site and linked to the downloads the site was also offering links to other file sharing applications. The LW link takes you to the LW site. So it is not a scam.....my apologies for the wrong use of words when I typed. Anyway, my question was still not answered, If you turn off the popup that states no License found for this, proceed anyway?........does that solve the license problem? So that everyone using LW can download with no risk? Or is it just getting rid of a nuisance. That is all I was trying to ask. And in comparison, 360 hardly ever asks.: But that doesn't mean their right either.

If you are under the impression that if 360 or Limewire don't ask for a license, youre doing something perfectly legal, then you're wrong.

This very much depends on the laws of the country that you live in.

That license pop-up is the filesharing apps. way of telling you that you are your own boss, and cannot blame the app. for making it possible to download copyright works.

Most people choose to ignore it and use "always use this answer", but for some this actually is a good thing, because they thought that by paying some scamsite X amount of dollars, they would indeed not be breaking the law. (BTW www.limewire.com is not a scamsite, and will not claim to make unlimited free music blah blah blah possible nor legal)

For more info on this use the forum search. Search for things like copyright , license , legal , illegal , riaa , maffia , dmr (or was it drm) , etc.etc.etc. You will find lots of info on the subject.

Well then.....

Since every song I ask for asks for this license then I waisted my time on LW. The only thing I don't regret, is paying for a GPL program, that can use the money to continue to make LW worth something for those who can download music. Even as I download music with those licenses that are offered, I am still told that that may not be such a good thing. Personnally I feel that the LW site should have blatent links to Music Copyright laws and links to where you can download with out fear of repercussions. Just a suggestion.:bangh:

Well the site does have links about copyright. But copyright laws are different in every country in the world.

For the setting you wanted to know about (even though WW described it well), see License requirement (click on link) for sample settings.

LimeWire was never designed for the purpose of sharing copyright material. That's a peoples choice.

BTW 360Share is "old" LW technology copied from an earlier version. LW has no spyware or other rubbish introduced into it.

I understand the choice part of it. If I don't care download away!!!! I also understand LW wipeing their hands of any legality on their part by saying it is the users fault. But as you can see, I do care. So, where exactly can I find out where it is legal to download?
Or maybe I shouldn't care since my wife has been downloading away for years. Believing that she was legal for years, because of the same complaining I have been talking about, very little if any info on downloading safely:bangh:
