I am having a similar problem, but I want to add video from Limewire on to my video ipod. I am able to transfer the video files from Limewire into itunes, but once I try and update my ipod I get a message which says I can't copy these file onto the ipod because they can't be played. Is there a way that I can put these videos on my ipod?

iTunes cannot open mp3Pro files, or ogg vorbis. If you're using Mac OS, then you can get a plug-in to allow importing of Ogg files. Also if you're using mac OS, you can get another program to convert mp3pro to aiff. Then import into iTunes & convert to apple lossless.

I NEED THE ULTIMATE BRAIN TO HELP A VERY CONFUSED AND LOST ME OUT!!

IM IN NEED OF A SERIOUS HOW-TO WALK THROUGH POSSIBLY EVEN THROUGH EMAIL OR AIM B/C IM THAT LOST!!!

Ok i have a apple ipod 5th generation 30gb.Iam trying and been trying (for literally the last 7 hours) to transfer my songs from limewire to my ipod.NOW i know you must transfer them to itunes first i did that. Ive also clicked file>add folder to library and got all my songs from my limewire onto itunes. BUT it goes into this category called SHARED under the DEVICES category and above the PLAYLISTS category. It says DEVICES and under it says OWNERS LIMEWIRE and when you click there it lists all my songs and you can play them etc. BUT you cannot drag them to anywhere on te left side.

IVE ALSO went to file>add music file then trying to just drag my limewire files into the library category on itunes and that didnt work!!

I went to advanced and click consolidate library thinking maybe that would help but i belive that did nothing but i dont even know.

AND YES i have it clicked under edit>prefrences to have files copied to itunes when adding to library

I disabled limewire as my default player and made itunes my default player.

I did all this checking of the boxes though AFTER i had added my limewire file of songs to itunes so should maybe i delete the folder then do it again?

I also read you should make a playlist on limewire then you can just add that to your itunes and its easier but i dont even know how to make a playlist on limewire

PLEASE HELP ME IF YOU CAN!!

limewire and itunes HELP!!!!

Okay Birdy. This will be the 8TH BLOODY TIME through the forum. I have tried everything noted in this forum and have still not been able to transfer all limewire files into the itunes library and then into my ipod. I am frustrated! Can anyone else help me??????

Sleepless December 27th, 2006 10:25 PM

Open up Limewire. Go to the library highlight the folder containing your files, then press explore.

Now close Limewire but not the folder that opened. Open up iTunes and then drag the files from the folder to iTunes.

birdy December 27th, 2006 10:47 PM

Where are you having trouble...are files going to the iTunes library but not to the iPod, or are they not going to the iTunes library? Or are some files transferring, but not others?

Are you dragging & dropping, or using file > add to library? Have you tried both ways?

Do you have your iPod set for automatic or manual updates?

I'm sure you're frustrated & sometimes iTunes & iPods can be a pain. The reason that I yelled at you before was that you posted way too many times & it was a pain having to go & delete all those extra posts.

Lord of the Rings December 28th, 2006 05:03 AM

BTW since the apple site has rather unconveniently removed their video tutorials, since I had a few on my computer I have posted links to them in the thread you can access thru the link in post #4 above. Also posted a video tutorial by rkapsi who is now one of the LW devs. That one shows multiple techniques of adding files from LW to iTunes.

Ipod is set for automatic updates. Does that matter?

I'm not sure where it said to find the Explore button in iTunes do you? Select Saved Files folder & press the Explore button. Sample image here: Using Library Explore button to access downld folder (click on link) & the folder will open up for you. Make sure you see the video by rkapsi as suggested.

also problems with limewire

I've just purchased the new Ipod shuffle and I tried the trick posted about going to limewire, hitting explore and trying to drag the files to my ipod that way. Unfortunately, when I try and drag them over, a circle appears with a line through it, not allowing me to drag them over. I've tried all the methods shown in all the tutorials to no avail. I'm considering returning it and sticking with my mp3 player. No way am I purchasing songs through their store when I've got 500+ friggin songs with Limewire...ugh!

jensenf December 28th, 2006 07:06 PM

My limewire files do show up in my itunes folder under a shared file but I can't drag them over that way as well.

Sleepless December 28th, 2006 07:14 PM

I really don't know why all of a sudden people have trouble adding songs to iTunes. Maybe some update (I don't let mine connect and it works just fine)

Just a thought (not the best way) but you could try clearing your iTunes Library then copying the songs in the Shared folder just in case something goes wrong. Now use iTunes to convert to m4a or ACC and add all the songs from the copied folder and then try adding those to your iPod.

P.S. I have never tried this myself since I don't own one, but it's worth a shot

birdy December 28th, 2006 07:26 PM

What OS are you using? I'm a windows user, so:
The LW playlist that shows up in iTunes is just a playlist & so you won't be able to add from that.

Try going (in iTunes) file > add file to library. Browse for your LW saved folder (by default it's C:\Documents and Settings\your name\Shared...if you've changed to another location then tools > options > saving in LW will show you the location). Once you've found your saved folder, you can add from there.

If you want to add all of your saved files, you can choose (in iTunes) 'add folder'...again browse for your saved folder & add the whole thing. This will take some time.

Or you can open your LW saved folder, right click on a song > open with > choose iTunes...should go into your iTunes library.

Transferring music to iPod & iTunes

Sleepless December 28th, 2006 07:46 PM

I'm a Windows user too and drag and drop from the shared folder works for me (well I can't test adding them to an iPod since I don't have one).

If a Limewire playlist shows up in iTunes then you are doing it the wrong way. Why should iTunes register Limewire when adding from your shared folder (or any folder)??

birdy December 28th, 2006 07:53 PM

Sometimes drag & drop doesn't work for some people, I don't know why. It works for me but doesn't for some people. The other ways are an alternative if drag & drop doesn't work.

The LW playlist shows up in iTunes if iTunes sharing's enabled within LW & LW's open. Sometimes people try to add to their iTunes library from this playlist.

Sleepless December 28th, 2006 08:01 PM

Hmm.. Then maybe advising people to disable iTunes sharing in Limewire would help. That may just be the root of the problem.

This should not be an issue on the same OS. One more thing for the devs to have a look at.

Oh BTW could be the version of iTunes. I use iTunes 7 on a Windows XP MCE 2005

birdy December 28th, 2006 08:32 PM

You could be right! I'm just as happy to explain to people that the "LimeWire tunes" is a playlist only...that way, they'll know what it is in future;)

Sleepless December 28th, 2006 08:58 PM

As you wish ;) BTW I'm an iTunes newbie as well, but find it extremely easy to use. Just needed something for that DJ thing to use in cunjunction with WinAMP, and it took maybe 20 minutes to figure out :xeri_ok1ani:

Worked a treat :laugh_2:

I think you're right, but it has to do with both iTunes version and OS. I changed back from iTunes 6 to iTunes 7 yesterday and the LW playlist's not showing. iTunes sharing's enabled, prefs deleted just to make sure, tried all sorts of LW versions. When I use iTunes 6 the playlist's always there.

But...the playlist shows up when using iTunes 7 on a Mac & also Win 2000.
Maybe it's just when using XP with iTunes 7 that the playlist doesn't show?

Lord of the Rings December 29th, 2006 08:20 PM

For those who have used it before you know what it looks like. But this snapshot is from Windows 2000 using LW 4.13 & iTunes 7.0.1
The adding or removing the shared playlist via LW's options is automatic now once you press the apply button. Previously you had to restart iTunes & possibly LW also. The 2nd image is after clicking on the playlist in iTunes. So this problem with the playlist not showing in iTunes seems to be a windows XP issue. Do you all have QuickTime 7 installed or an alternative? Not that it should affect this.

I have QT 7.1.3

Sleepless December 29th, 2006 10:51 PM

Same here and iTunes 7.0.2.16
