I have Limewire Pro 4.9.23 Are you saying that the Chat function will not work with this version?

I also do not seem to be able to "Direct Connect" to a friend of mone across town. There's a note on the tab saying that I am behind a firewall, and therefore cannot accept a direct connection. I am running Comodo Firewall, ann Limewire works just fine. How can I get around this?

khatri.manus May 7th, 2007 12:50 AM

hey reid i 2 have a firewall......but it doesnt have 2 do wid direct connect.!!i have turned on firewall....of windows.then also i m able 2 use direct connect!!!!!!!try checking ur limewire options!!!!

Reid2211 May 7th, 2007 01:29 AM

I have checked all of the options, and there's nothing listed that even refers to direct connections. I have the chat enabled. If I you have the time, would you be so kind as to search for a jpeg called "SUPERSTAR VIRGO" and select "chat with host" to see if that works? (I have just put a 93.6kb picture in my shared folder) As for the direct connection problem, the tab on the left hand side that is called "direct connect" tells me that I cannot because I am behind a firewall. I do not know anyone's address to test this though.
Cheers.

Reid2211....When you see a wall in front of the globe in limewire, it will mean that you will not be able to direct connect to anyone and you probably won't be able to chat either as no-one will be able to see your files, because of the firewall...

Also can you supply your details so I can see what might be causing the firewall....;)

Thanks, I will do it tomorrow, it's 11:05 here in Adelaide, and I am very sssllleeeeeepppyyy (actually I am on the laptop now playing poker, and Limewire is on the desktop. he he). I do have a picture of a wall in front of the globe, but since posing the question, I have actually had some success pulling up a list of someones shared folder, if I know there IP address AND their port number. I have checked my Comodo Firewall, and Limewire is set for full access. By the way, should I be able to see my own files if I were to search for them? (I can't by the way) Does this sound like things are working correctly?

wondering why May 7th, 2007 05:44 PM

You will probably just need to open a Port for limewire as your modem/router more than likely has a Nat Firewall within it...If you supply the make and model of the router, I can give you the instructions on how to do it

No you can't search for your own files ....;)

Reid2211 May 7th, 2007 08:11 PM

OK, I have a Motorola SBG900 wirless surfboard.
I have tried to set up a static IP adress before, but it created a fatal conflict, so I haven't played with the settings since.
I am sure people can see my files, because I see files in the "uploads" window. If you want to check, I have put a 93.6kb JPEG file called "SUPERSTAR VIRGO" inmy shared folder. If you search for it, I am sure you will find it.
Let me know what you think about the ports thingy.

wondering why May 7th, 2007 11:23 PM

Well you don't have a Nat Firewall your router doesn't support one...
I just did a search for your jpeg and it hasn't brought up any results...

If you see peers in your monitor window it means you are sharing...

What security do you use ?? ie firewalls/Antivirus protection ??

Reid2211 May 7th, 2007 11:34 PM

Wondering Why, I have sent you a PM
Let me know if this was not appropriate.

wondering why May 14th, 2007 04:15 AM

It's more than likely that the peers you are trying to chat with don't have the Beta version and as it doesn't work with some of the previous official releases they aren't recieving the message...
Many people still have the chat enabled in other versions so you can browse them (although that can be unreilable at times to)...;)
