How to optimize LW with these speed results

Just wondering how to best optimize LW with the speeds I obtained from my ISP provider. Latest test results from bellsouth.net show my download speed at 2.7 mbps and my upload at 377.0 kbps. Am using the Cable/DSL speed setting, have not changed any bandwidth settings. Here are the current settings I am using:

Days to keep incomplete files: 7
Share finished downloads: Checked
Speed: Cable/DSL
ISP: Bellsouth Fast Access DSL/Westell Modem
ISP website: AT&T
Disable ultrapeer capabilities: Unchecked
Enable OOB searching: Checked
Maximum downloads: 8
Clear completed downloads: Checked
Download bandwidth: 100 %
Automatically clear completed uploads: Checked
Upload bandwidth: 100 %
Allow partial sharing: Checked
Uploads per person: 3
Max upload slots: 10
Chat: Checked
Itunes buffer size: 2048
Maximum searches: 3
Qualities: Show all qualities
Speeds: Show all speeds
Enable content filters: Unchecked
Junk: Do not display junk
Filter: ignore .vbs files and .wmv/.asf files
For those who only want .mp3 results add wma to the filter list-at the box at the top type wma and then click add.
Files you must share to not be a freeloader: 1
Allow freeloaders: Always
Listen on port: 36073 (Current setting, it does change from time to time)
Router: Use UPnP
Proxy: No proxy

Please let me know of any tips which will best help in optimizing my LW for best performance,

I would adjust your upload bandwidth to around the 40 to 45 KB/s instead of 100%....;)
I personally have only 5 upload spots open...

Thanks wondering, have adjusted upload bandwidth. Any more tips would be greatly appreciated.

The rest looks pretty good to me...Are you experiencing any problems, like slow download speed or stuck behind a firewall ??

If so can you supply these details and I'll have a look at your setup and see if any fine tuning can be doen there...;)

Wondering, download speeds fluctuate but they are not a problem. Have seen 8 and above, they only drop when I download three or more files at the same time. Yes, there is a firewall active in Limewire and also in Windows XP. If I knew that it would significantly improve performance to disable it I would.

Thanks Much,

I have a 3 Mbit/sec connection, and I can get 30-100 kB/sec downloads with 10 hosts. Plus, multiple downloads don't slow my speeds down. That only happened when I had dial-up. Have you configured your firewall in Windows?

Control Panel...Windows Firewall...Exceptions Tab
Make sure Limewire is checked (or add LW if it's not there)

Good Luck

As Dano has pointed out you don't have to disable your firewall...
Also you might have a Nat Firewall within your router and may have to open a Port for limewire...;)

Limewire is checked in Exceptions tab of Windows Firewall. I've played around with the number of maximum downloads even set it at 50 just to see what would happen. Have even changed speed from cable/DSL to T1 and T3 but don't think T1 or T3 apply to my current setup. I think the port changes from day to day and have read some posts which say it should be set at 50000 and above. Any other tips to help boost LW performance are greatly appreciated.

Thanks all,
Andy Perkins

You might want to change the "Days to keep incomplete files" to something like 999. That way you won't lose any incomplete files your trying to get d/loaded.

Sorry all, did not mean to post information which went against the rules of the forum. Am interested though if maybe I should be using T1 instead of cable/DSL for speed setting. Have reduced upload bandwidth to about 40.25 and set 2 for amout of uploads at one time and 3 for max upload slots. As I mentioned before, I had read posts saying that the port setting should be set at 50000 and above; have not tried this, and it may not make any noticeable difference to performance.

Please keep me posted if there are any other ways to optimize performance,
Andy Perkins

Noticed also that there is still a firewall in front of the globe in Limewire. Have checked all exceptions in Windows Firewall concerning LW; and have Use UPnP checked. Current port setting is 18362. Have set max downloads to 15 which is 7 higher than the default setting of 8. Set upload bandwidth at 40.25 and set uploads per person and max upload slots to 2. Have appreciated all the help provided and if there are any other tips please be sure to let me know.

Thanks,
Andy Perkins

Just ran a speed test through Bellsouth FastAccess DSL, and currently have the following download and upload speeds; 3.0 Mbps for download speed and 375.0 kbps for upload speed. Still have wall in front of the globe which (obviously) means that I'm not on the right port setting. I've currently set uploads per person to 2 and max upload slots to 3; if I should change these settings in order to have higher download speed please be sure to let me know what I should set them to for optimal performance. Have repeated many things here, sorry for this, just trying to finetune LW for optimal performance; and the suggestions and tips have resulted in much better performance overall. Thank you everyone for your help and please keep me posted if there are other tips; also, need to know whether (sorry for repeating this) setting the port to 50000 or above will have any impact on the performance of LW. On another note, if there are any new skins for LW please keep me posted as skins are also important to me.

Thanks again,
Andy Perkins

Help, I'm new!

How do you post a new forum because I have many questions.

Well, since we last spoke, Bellsouth has downgraded download and upload speed to the lowest level. Am now on Fast Access DSL Lite and the latest speed figures are the following:

DL Speed: 252.0 Kbps
UL Speed: 125.9 Kbps

If there is anything I can do to maximize performance, please let me know. Also, have LW on exceptions list but am not sure how to configure the router; still have firewall over the globe so obviously it hasn't been configured properly yet. Once again, I'd like to thank everyone for the tips they have provided and am waiting for any new skins for LW. Currently have the Holiday Theme, the Valentine Theme, the Party Theme and the Patriotic Theme. I have also posted a thread containing some suggestions for new skins; the thread is Ideas for Skins under the Open Discussion topics Forum.

Thanks again,
Andy Perkins
