A Question For The Wise Members (remove all traces of LW) I have never had any problems using limewire but I need to uninstall it to sell this computer any buy another. Now most of my needed files ( music ) have been placed onto memory sticks I have about 2,000 songs. ( correct me on anything below or add your additions. I guess there are plenty of people here with much more knowledge than I. ) so here goes. Before I sell this computer and buy my new on ( I have windows XP. HOME ) at the moment. I intend to do this. 1. Uninstall limewire. 2. Run a search for limewire and delete anything with ‘limewire’ that comes up in the search. 3. Delete the music on my computer that I do not need. 4. Run cyber scrub on my c/drive. 5. Run spy sweeper. 6. Clean out my internet cookies via c/drive. 7. Remove system resore dates keeping only my most recent one. So that is that part and I know how to do it. But…. Should I ( been told it is a good thing ) download a programme called cyber scrub to clean my c/drive - hard rive , I have been told I should and have downloaded this cyber scrub. I have a spy sweeper also that I got with this P.C. So if I do 1-2-3-4-5-6-7- , and clean my c/drive with cyber scrub and run the spy sweeper will all my downloads be deleted and unrecoverable ? I am guessing yes! But I know only this much ‘delete does not mean gone’ So have I covered all bases to sell my computer with no worry of the next owner getting my music files of both now and long deleted ones in the past. I await your advice on this. |
Easy and fast to your question if you have a new or old Xp disk laying around do this do a re-format on the drive that had all of your info on it.To surprise you if you sell your Computer to some one you dont know he or she can really recover your file's if they have exp in computers scary huh.Even if you did a drive Scruber it's really un-rely-able.Just a good tip for you.A Format on a drive is the best way to delete all info on your pc and a fresh windows. I have used all Windows bas system's up till now every thing from windows3.1 to present and will stay a way from vista. hope this helps you:xeri_ok1ani: |

Thank you both :xeri_ok1ani: I do have a windows XP. Product Recovery Disc CD ROM. And about two years ago I tried a full recovery ( reformat ) on windows X.P. and had nothing but trouble. I think I may as well go with the recovery , as this will give the next person a fresh windows and me peace of mind. Any tips on doing a product Recovery.? Do I do a partial or full recovery.? And does it matter if the CD. ROM is for this computer or is it enough to have ‘any’ product recovery disc as long as it is X.P. Genuinely grateful for the help given so far.: |
Just a little FYI. It has been said that it takes up to 7 Reformates to completly wipe the Disc. Makes no difference to me what you decide. Just trying to give some helpful Info. There are File Recovery Programes out there that will be able to Recover files and data after only one reformat. Just something to think about. |
I really appreciate you taking the time to let me know that as for what I do , I am unsure but it is good to know the choices I have. After all even if I did not sell my computer and put it in the bin I guess I still need to remove my information and so on ? |
Most deffinately (spell check) It has always been quite a debate on what to do with an old HDD. The link I gave you in post #2 seems to get the job done as it overwrites the disc many times. Me personally would never let anyone get there hands on any HDD that I have used. HDD are very inexpensive now days, so I would take the old one out and replace it. That might also be an oppertunity to get more money out of the computer when selling. You can get a 40gig HDD for about $45.00 |
