limewire doesnt allow me to download from 14 hosts anymore

Hey, i have been using limewire pro for about a year, but my update rights were gone so my mom bought a new one, assuming that speeds would be even higher.
But it only allows me to download from 10 hosts max. instead of 14, which causes substantial loss in speed and i want to use the speed of our 8Mb internet. Any way to fix it or is buying limewire pro a waste of money and should i return to older versions or frostwire?:wasntme:

Using LW basic you can download from a max of 8 per file. Using Pro a max of 10 hosts per file. If you are in Ultrapeer mode and are using pro then I think it's 14 hosts per file.
What it means is that for some reason you are not running as an ultrapeer at moment. Reasons for that could be varied. Such as firewall interference. No need for ultrapeers in your area at the time. Or your uploads or download bandwidth being too busy within LW. Go to LW's menu bar, Tools > Options > Advanced > Performance and make sure Ultrapeer is enabled. If it is then, close LW. Try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

first it would say in options connection speed:
dial up
broadband
t1
t3

now only

dial up
broadband
this could be the problem, because i didnt have any less than 14 hosts before i took the new version, and ultrapeer isnt disabled..

btw there is a wall behind the globe in firewall status, but this was also with the older version, does this matter?

No fix and you just got screwed by updating to a newer version:

Only way around it is to downgrade to an earlier version of Pro

superaki May 17th, 2008 04:43 AM

I was already afraid that I had to downgrade.(i believe 4.12-14) By the way, does FrostWire have any advantages over that version of limewire PRO?

Sleepless May 17th, 2008 10:37 AM

I really haven't followed the FrostWire development, so I can't say for sure. If you know how to portforward your router then maybe look into Phex. It is being developed in the right direction unlike Limewire.

Limewire versions that I consider good (before bittorrent was added) are pre Limewire 4.13

superaki May 18th, 2008 11:29 AM

mm i dont really care about bittorrent because i think bittorent users ban me from downloading from them because they see i use limewire pro( I don't see why)

Remoc May 18th, 2008 11:45 AM

That can only be true when using Bit Torrent through LW. Don't do it. LW has made a Half-A$$ed attempt to include BT and basically it's nothing but a big Joke. If your going to use BT then either try Asureus which can be accessed from Sleepless' Sig or try uTorrent which is in my Sig. You will get Banned trying to use BT through LW.
I would take the advice of Sleepless and try Phex if your not going to use BT.

Thank you, Sleepless! After downloading the new version of LW PRO, I could not even get the program to open. And, after trying every thing else (and I DO mean every thing!), I tried your suggestion and, using your link, downloaded the older version - and I'm back online with LW, my library intact and it's working beautifully. I really think LW should forward you the money I just paid them for the upgrades. Thanks again.

annieva May 18th, 2008 12:10 PM

Now, I have a question: I've downgraded to the earlier version of LW. How do I get the PRO version without having to re-upgrade?

Sleepless May 18th, 2008 02:06 PM

I PM'ed you the answer to that.

superaki May 19th, 2008 05:23 AM

i would also like to know how i upgrade pro via old version: i managed to get 4.12, but how can i get the pro version now? i paid for it.
@ remoc I already use Utorrent for torrent files :D i don't like bittorrent though but I use it to download movies and old games and whole albums.

LW 4.12 came out over 12 months ago, 4.14 came out 10 months ago. At that time Pro only offered 6 months of support & updates. Your 6 months of support & updates will have finished a long time ago.

http://www.gnutellaforums.com/site-f...ew-thread.html (click on blue link) well ... before you create threads ... you first need to search for answers to problems already posted on the forums using search function or stickies. This is a typical example. Most problems have already been previously answered so we post Sticky's at the top of each section of the forums with answers to the most commonly asked questions & problems. We also have a forum search function. It can actually be faster to search an answer sometimes than to post a question. And to save us answering the same question 999 times in the same month, please try to do the above as the Gnutella Forums Rules specifies which you saw three times upon signing up to these forums (at least the links were provided to you!) & the forum rules are listed at the top of each section of these forums. ;) :)
