Searching - Wildcards, exact match,etc

Is there any option to use characters such " and/or * to increase accuracy of search results

For example if i wanted to search for "ash"
normally results would include "ashley" & "ashanti" etc etc.
Most search engines allow you to use "ash" which would only find the whole words or the exact phrase within the "..."

Does limewire contain such functions?

Thanks, Dave.

simple answer is no. Adding such would mean larger size searches and slower search & return of results. Also would be less results coming in because the search would die out faster.

Way around it is to use a space or dash.

Thanks!

Speed is a fair enough reason, but at the same time Id much rather have 5 accurate results that take 2-3 minutes to find than 20 inaccurate ones that take 30sec to show!

Some of the other p2p sharing programs, some of past, some of present, can spend 20-60+ mins for a single 'full' search. lol :D LW does reasonably well to get as many results as it can in such a short time. Unfortunately, like many other p2p networks it has been hit by deliberate spamming by organisations trying to prevent copyright files being shared.

Some people accidentally or deliberately mis-title their files. This might be by guessing what the file is rather than doing any research as to what it is. Some re-titling is to cover what the content of the file really is for attempted secret sharing.

Personally I prefer Phex's search engine. It has various search filters including size filters & 'not include specific words' filters. Phex also connects to more of the other gnutella client programs, whereas LW mostly connects to other LW users.

Number of users connected.
"I ran the limewire application using Eclipse to connect to Gnutella network successfully.

I am able to download the files requested at search button.

Apart from this, I would like to know how many number of users are connected to this network on every day.

How and where could I get this information from?"

LW Programmer's response:
"There really is no source for this, atleast not readily available in the program. The best way is to crawl the network, although I don't recommend doing it too often. We used to do a nightly crawl and posts the results, but the machine the crawl ran on died a miserable death, and the crawler was so old that we couldn't get it to run again on any other machine. We've written a few others, but haven't really had the time to set up the scripts that will generate the chart & pictures.

The last crawl I ran (about a week ago) showed approximately 3 million leafs and 1 million ultrapeers."
