files from old to new

how do i get files from my old desktop(win98)
to my new laptop(vista)
is there a way to access the desktop account from the laptop?
Please help.

The only way to do a transfer of files that I know of is to transfer your shared folder onto an external hard drive or disc and then transfer onto the laptop....;)
