dmg file i'm pretty new to computers and i've downloaded a garageband application in a dmg format but i'm stuck on what to do next, how to get it to open or start. would anyone be able to post an idiots step by step guide for me or am i being overly optimistic about it working at all? cheers |
hi Hilly you can search for "dmg" in these forums to find more info, but Disk Copy (Jaguar) or Disk Utility (Panther) can open .dmg files and mount them as a disk images on the desktop. If you are using OS 9 or earlier, you're pretty much out of luck, since .dmg are mostly for OSX. btw--I assume you used the file name as an example: otherwise, if it is a copyright program, you should go to the site for help, not here. cheers |
ta for help - yes obviously i was using that name as an example but am still having no joy. i've tried disk utility (it's a panther system) but am going to give up cos i don't think it's going to work, ever, for anyone, especially not a computer-phobe like myself. cheers anyway for yr help - it's appreciated. |
Too bad. If you do want to test a reliable .dmg file that I know works, try http://www.mager.org/LimeWire/LimeWire.html You can download either via the web or using the magnet link. Once downloaded, a doubleclick should load the disk image on your desktop. If not, something is wrong with your Panther settings that should be easy to fix. |
