safe downloading of programs

I'm new to Limewire and just downloaded a Photoshop program to try out before I buy it. But I'm getting cold feet about installing it. I know limewire warns against opening any .exe files, and some of the files were excell which I understand can mean trouble. Any suggestions on how to access safe programs via Limewire? Thank you.

Forum Rules (click here) We can't talk about Warez on the forum. But what confuses me is why you downloaded an exe file when you're using Mac OSX. exe files only work on Windows!!! :p
Check the file size is as large as it should be (should prolly be way over 100 MB)

BTW you can get a free trial version of photoshop. Google it. Or go to http://www.download.com/3101-2003-0-1.html & search it.

It was a large file, took about a half hour to download with DSL from a T3 source. The file name said it was for Mac; I had no idea exe files only worked on Windows platform. Thanks for your response and info. I figure I'll not risk opening it at this point...
