Getting booted off a lot

I downloaded Limewire last week and then Limewire Pro Saturday. I've been having a problem with getting booted off a lot....as a matter of fact I just did while writing this message. Limewire will sometimes shut down after the connection is lost. I then have to restart Limewire and reconnect. I've tried restarting and shutting my iMac off then starting. I'm running OS 10.3.5. I know it's not my ISP because my daughter also has Limewire loaded on her PC and hasn't had the same issue. I also called my ISP the other night, irritated, blaming them. There was no problem on their end. Unfortunately I live in B.F.E. and I'm on a damn 56k modem. Are there any settings I need to change?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Dial up can be a little sensitive. Don't use the Resume button on all incomplete files. This can have side-fx such as affect LW's connection quality. May queue your files for much much longer. This will also stress LW & your comp. If you use Resume/Find sources then just apply it to one or so at one time. Don't try to downld too many files at one time.

May I ask why you're using 10.3.5 & not later? I guess the updates take a long time on dial up. Can you check the version of Java you're using (go to menu bar, About LimeWire under the Limewire word at top left corner next to the apple icon.

It may be worth deleting your LW preferences file whilst LW is CLOSED & found here: /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

It's often wise to do that after uprading to pro. But make a note of any settings you have because once you delete this file, the next time you open LW, you'll need to reset the options.

Thanks for the suggestions.... I do tend to get a little "trigger happy" with the resume. I only download two files at a time. If I try any more than that there's too much of a drag on the downloads. I'm not sure where to look for the Java version. I pulled up About LimeWire but didn't see anything about Java.

You guessed the exact reason why I haven't updated my OS. I tried it once...FORGET it! Eventually I'm going to get Tiger, just haven't taken the time to get it.

I'll try deleting the LW preferences as well. I love the program just irritated at my connection. Hoping to get satellite Internet soon. That's the only hope I have where I'm located.

Thanks!

Good to hear about a faster connection. Though Satellite may potentially have issues of its own. Find out from the isp about the modem/router device they will offer you. It may have nat firewalls built in in which case you'll need to find out whether it has UPnP capabilities or whether you can forward a port to enable you to use p2p.

I didn't even catch that when I pulled it up the first time. It's version 1.4.2_05. Should I get it updated or no?
