download speed I have a mac mini 1.25ghz with 510mb memory. My ADSL provider is Wanadoo/KPN (3000 kb/s download speed claim). With Limewire I manage a total download speed of maximum 350 kb/s with individual files downloading at max. 40kb/s. I find this all rather slow compared to the (theoretical) 3000kb/s promised by the provider. Am I expecting too much or is there a bottleneck I don't know about? According to your little test I don't have a blocking firewall. Thanks auba |
The problem could be that ISP's advertise their speeds in kilobits/s(kb/s). Limewire shows speeds in kilobytes/s(KB/s). There are 8 bits in 1 byte. So 3000kb/s = 375KB/s. So your right about where you should be. Some bandwidth is used for overhead;). |
Try doing a speed test and see what it says: http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ http://www.dslreports.com/stest http://specials.zdnet.co.uk/misc/ban...eedtest50.html |
Many thanks 6 pac. Indeed my provider's specs are in kilobits/s. A speed check shows 2255kbp/s down and 388 kbp/s up. |
:) Downloading at 350 KB/s is very respectable. About 180KB/s is the best that i can manage and I'm happy with that;). |
Limewire for somreason just started downloading at 1kb and i cant fix it i tried to reinstall and still does the same thing. I also changed my firewall settings changed my router settings and its a no go. please help me. |
