Connection Issues OSX and Pro

Greetings,

I just upgraded to LW PRO 4.11.12 and cannot connect. I am running OSX 10.4.8 and using Rogers high speed. I did not have any issues prior to downloading Pro. I'm a bit of a rookie on the firewall thing. Can anybody walk me through this.

Please and Thanks

After updating to Pro, it's often a good idea to delete the LW preferences folder (whilst LW is closed however!!!) The prefs folder can be found here /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

If still problems, some more info would help: System details - help us to help you (click on link)

Thanks for responding. Here are my details. I think this will be posted twice. Sorry about that.

Hey there,

I'm going to try this as well as I'm having the same problems since i upgraded to LW PRO 4.11.12

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98,XP.SP2. )? Mac Tiger 10.4.8
2. What firewalls you have? Came with mac
3. How much ram? 768 Mb
4. Hard Disk space available? 19.7GB
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)? Cable
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Modem-Motorola SB5120
7. Where are you trying to connect from (house, appartment complex, school, student accomodation, work, etc.)? Home Wireless mac Airport
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version. LW 4.11.12 Java 1.5.0_06
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Rogers
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Says Your test worked!
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. Ran free LW with no problems until I upgraded
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes

I have searched through other suggestions in these forums and have tried unblocking the firewall in the Mac System Prefs but am unsure of what or where to find the UDP number in the LW prefs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. In the meantime, I'll try your suggestion of deleting the pref folder.

Thanks

Pal

Let us know if deleting the LW prefs folder fixes it or not. BTW the new version is LW 4.12.11 ... easy mistake to make. :D

Airports have the option of port forwarding or a NAT-PMP mode that's roughly comparable to UPnP mode. If it's not working reliably in that mode then port forwarding is the way to go; Apple Airport Extreme/Express for Mac users * (NAT-PMP)

I have deleted the prefs folder and matched port numbers in the system prefs and in LW prefs. I am now getting 3 green bars instead of 1 and a fair connection instead of starting connection. when I check the connections, I am only getting one which is probably why I am only getting a fair connection. search results are slow and I haven't yet been able to download anything successfully.

I am wondering if there is a list of hosts that I can access to manually add under the connections window.

Many thanks o Gandalf the LWise

Pal

Try deleting the LW prefs folder as described in post 2 above. Also more details of set up will help.

"If" you need the OSX firewall turned on (many mac users don't use it), then enter whichever ports LW is connecting thru. Generally we add the default port which is 6346 for both the TCP & UPN options in the OSX firewall. OSX Firewall settings for Tiger (click blue link) & see sample image.

When you change over to Pro, it's generally wise to delete the LW preferences folder whilst LW is closed. The Prefs folder is found here: /Users/your_username/Library/Preferences/LimeWire

Let us know if deleting the LW prefs folder helps at all. :)
