Installanywhere Problem February 3rd, 2003 07:18 PM

Can't Install; Installanywhere installer not found

I get this error message when I try and install to my Ibook with OS 9.2.2 that it can't install b/c it can't find "Installanywhere installer". When I looked on the internet to download it, I couldn't find it one that fixed the problem.

Anyone know how to get around this, or get a free version of Installanywhere that could open the limewire install?

I would suggest re-downloading the installer. I don't think that there's an InstallAnywhere program to download. I think it's part of the installer. There may have just been a problem with it.

Mac Installation problem

I have downloaded the bin file several times now. Unfortunately I then cannot get it to open in order to complete the installation - thge warning comes up that the application programme that created it cannot be found. I am rapidly losing my patience - any suggestions? The Mac is an iMac running OS9.2

What happens when you drop the .bin file onto the latest version of stuffit expander? Might the ability to unstuff .bin files have become unchecked in the stuffit expander preferences? If your stuffit won't expand other .sit or .bin files, perhaps reinstall stuffit?

I assume you are booted up in OS 9 (not Classic/ OSX).

Cheers--and good luck. These problems can be aggravating!

Thanks very much for your reply - which is, of course the solution! I was also advised to do the same by my 15 year old son - with immediate and effective results. It has been a Homer Simpson experience for me!
Thanks again.

Stuck, What installer did you download? Try to download LimeWire again from the link in my signature. Hope this helps.

Hello!

All I know is that the LimeWire teams uses the application InstallAnywhere from Zero G's version 5.06 Enterprise build 1671 to create the installers.

http://www.zerog.com/index.html

However that is not required to open a finished LW installer. All that you have to do is to drop the downloaded LimeWire bin file ontop of Stuffit Expander (version 6.5 or later is required) icon on your desktop and it will drop a functional installer on your desktop that you can execute and install LW from.

If it does not work then you have either downloaded the wrong version of LW that is not for your system. If that is the case then you have to download the proper version from LW's site. Another possibility is that your download became corrupt and a few bits got lost during transfer. If that is the case then you have to trash it and once again download a new copy and hopefully you will get a functional installer.

And as I mentioned you have to use atleast version 6.5 of Stuffit Expander to open it so check the version you are using. If you are using a version that is 6.5 or above then it is probably the other problems mentioned in my post or in the posts above that is the cause of your problem.

Another possibility is that you downloaded LW from another place other then LW's site http://www.limewire.com

Maybe you have recieved some kind of developer version of LW. Make sure that you download LW from LW's site.

i have stuffit 7 and i have downloaded both versions more than once, about 5x

stuck April 8th, 2003 12:53 AM

all dl from limewire.com ps i have system 9.22 aswell and installanywhere isnt classic compatable.

spearson April 8th, 2003 05:59 AM

Installanywhere is classic compatible. I have no problems with the installer. I have system 9.2.2. What version of "Mac OS Runtime For Java" do you have? Download v2.2.5 if you have an earlier version. Mac OS Runtime For Java (MRJ) can be found in the Apple Extras folder which is in the Applications (Mac OS 9) folder. I hope that helps.

Install Anywhere not found

I too have received that message and cannot seem to correct it. When I download LW it isn't compressed, so there is no need to run it through stuffit. I'm also working on Mac OS 9.2.2. Has this problem been corrected yet?

By the way I also downloaded MRJ 2.2.5 and that didn't solve the problem.
Is there a problem with the download from the web site?

Installanywhere not found

I to have the same problem Ihave even went back to my 2.7.9 installer that worked previously and it now comes up with the same message.

When is LIMEWIRE going to sort their installer programe??????

stief April 25th, 2003 05:30 PM

Stuffit just released a new version. It might decode better, especially if your previous one doesn't work now.

Installanywhere installer not found

I can't see how it has anything to do with stuffit as the installer from version 2.7.9 that has been unstuffed and installed on my home computer will now NOT work with my works computer.
the problem must be with either the MRJ version or the the installer?
Could it be some thing to do with the MRJ SDK 2.2 this is installed on my home computer but not my works.

Can any one help

Norman
