Oooh you are using the pre 9 version meaning 8.X. Unfortunatelly your selection of MP3 players is fairly limited. The only one that I can think of that supports all versions of OS 8.X is Ian's Free MP3 Jukebox which you can read about and download here: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macos/9801
It may not be beautiful but atleast it should work for you. And remember it cannot play Audio CD's(Aiff/WAV) you still have to use Apples Audio cd player for that.
And I am not sure that the Launch button will work with that player but atleast you will be able to manually add your mp3 songs to it and play them.
However one thing that should work is if QuickTime is choosen as your default player in your File Exchange control panel then you could atleast temporarily be able to just to listen to a single song that you downloaded by clicking the Launch button and QT will play it.
