Error type 1 Ok I just downloaded the newest version of limewire and installed it on my computer. Wish I could still use the old 1.7 still, but anyway now when I try to start the program up all I get is an errortype 1. |
|
Help me out Alright I downloaded the newest MRJ from the link you gave me. Limewire still gets error 1 and I dont know how to put more memory to this file. I cant find it cause I have no idea what to look for. Tell me how to get this stupid program running please. |

I also participated in this thread that you should read: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=19710 It describes the process of giving MRJ more memory and also where it is located. |
still nothin OK I set the perferred memory for Apple Applet Runner to 32000, restarted my comp and still the same message. I really need to solve this cause its driving me nuts. Wish Kazaa was for mac. So please help. |
When do you get this "type 1" error? As soon as you start up LimeWire? You could try this. Search for LimeWire on your Mac and delete everything that has to do with it. Re-download the latest version of LimeWire from the download link in my signature and install it. Let us know if that helps. |
Still nothing Ok deleting everything and installing it was the first thing I did. I get the error right after the limewire box with the clock goes away then the Limewire has unexpectebly quit doing to an error type 1. I hate limewire, why the stupid mandatory update. 1.7c was all I needed. |
Limedude, might this thread help. If it's not the usual installer/java problem, maybe an extension confict like the FaxStf one. richiestang_78, someone (Kathy W I think?) recommended 60,000k of memory be allocated. When you figure this out, post back with a solution to help others. Listening to rants gets pretty tedious when there are some really good ones around. Mark Twain's are my favourites. (sorry--just passing through looking for the links to the old versions. Pardon the interruption) |
Frustrating I know that this problem can be fixed and I have done everything down to the letter that I have read but same error everytime. |
Aha! You set the memory for the applet runner, right? Reset it to the preferred, and give LW the memory. Did I miss what machine/OS version you are using? Here's what an old Apple Error Codes '98 says about Type 1 errors: Quote:

Yeah I am using a Mac G4 400mhz and am on 9.2.2 |
no go Still nothing, Ive been deleting and installing for 2 days now. I have no idea what to do. Ive changed the memory to everything youve told me to and back again. Still get the stupid error type 1 message. |

LimeWire works differently then other Classical Mac OS applications because it is Java. LW will assign the amount of memory required automatically. My LW usually eats about 60MB of RAM and yeat I have not changed its memory allocation from its default values. Only the memory allocation for MRJ should be changed. I recommends to set the maximum value to 32000 and leave the minimum value unchanged. For me that setting has always worked great. |
Re: no go Quote:
Try this: If you have 320MB or more physical RAM then you should turn off Virtual memory. If you have less then you should set VM to 193MB or more depending on the amount of physical RAM that you have but if you have 320MB or more VM should be turned off. Go into your File Exstension Control panel(Apple Menu>Control Panels>File Exstension Control panel) and turn off any exstensions belonging to any FireWall, Antivirus app and ofcourse all the FAX STF exstensions then Re-Start you Mac and see if it will work this time. |
done that I did set MRJ to 32000 and 60000. And I need my virtual memory to be on so thats a no. i hate java. Still nothing. Os: 9.2.2 G4 400Mhz 768Mb Ram Does it need to be installed somewhere specific or something. I dont install it in the applications folder but rather just to the drive itself. |
Re: done that Quote:
First off all change the setting back to the default memory value for LW. That setting should not have been changed as I described in my post above. change it back to 1101 as minimum and 2125 as maximum. You must install LimeWire inside the Applications folder. Just move your LimeWire folder to the Applications(Mac OS 9) folder. Why in earth do you have to have Virtual memory turned on?. You have a gigantic amount of memory 768MB is alot. Apple recommends turning off VM if you have more then 320MB of physical RAM installed. When using OSX then VM cannot be turned off and even if VM is turned off under Classic OSX will still use its own version of VM. But under Mac OS9.x and that amount of RAM then VM should definetly be turned off. To turn off VM do the following: Go to Apple Menu>Control Panels>Memory and here turn off VM and re-start your Mac. |
I know I know how to turn it off but trust me I go through Ram in no time, and then I cant continue until I restart so just no. Why would it matter anyway |
Bummer still nothing, I reinstalled it on the right folder and it still shows the error. I have the MRJ set for 32000 and I am just about to give up. I would have to call this bad programing if its that hard. Any other ideas if not ok I'll wait for Limewire 3 i guess. |
Sucks to be richiestang_78 right now. Try the suggestion posted in the "First Run help" thread of trashing LW 2.9 and re-installing v. 2.8.6. A link is posted there where you can get it. Stay funky, Johnny B. |
thanks Thanks I just downloaded 2.8.6 and it works great. Is this the best of the older versions? |
2.9.7 might work too - but I'm not sure whether it had still the bug, that the upload speed could not be modified... |
