java error
 

Installed new version of limewire for mac no VM. Insallation successful. Java error when trying to open limewire. I have version 2.2.5 Java.
Error Reads:
Unable to Launch Java Application

Unable to locate the application's 'main' class. The class 'com.limegroup.gui.Main must be public and have a 'public static void main(String[])' method. (LAX)

There are details to this error if you need'em let me know.
The older version was working fine prior to this issue.

I've got the same problem, however the LimeWire download page has a link to the site to get the Java application needed. But another problem came when the Java download site does not have a version for Macintosh. Now what do we do?

For information and the actual download of the Java for classical Mac OS(MRJ 2.2.5) go to Apple's Knowledge Base Expert search and search for the article id: 75097

The latest version of MRJ is 2.2.6. Download MRJ v2.2.6. You can still download MRJ v2.2.5.

Thanks for the tips, gentlemen, however after reading many other postings of folks having the same Java problems with LW and Macs I decided to download and re-install LW v. 2.8.6. The old version works fine, and I'll use it until 2.9 is running better.

Thanks to everyone. I have heard the same thing..... re-install the old version (limewire) wait for the MACbugs to be worked out on the new version. I did this and it has been working fine.

Basically it means that it is not recommended to update to MRJ 2.2.6 and also it is only made for Mac OS 9.2.2. MRJ 2.2.5 is still the version that should be used.

I have the same problem, I have download MRJ 2.2.5 and MRJ 2.2.6 and when i dowload basic version the same problem come back !

Try LimeWire 2.9.7 or 2.9.8 (not 2.9.8.2).

im using a G3/350 OS 9.1, MRJ v2.2.5 (tried all versions) and i have read and done everything you have written here to get my limewire run again. it seems like a f*** little syntax-error in the .lax file. but i have never typed one line of java...is nobody online who could solve the problem or give me a hint how to edit the .lax file?

Try LimeWire 2.9.8.
ver 2.9.8.2 is is broken.
