songs going over to shared folder with ######? Aloha Can anyone tell me why after downloaded, the songs pop over into my share folder, sometimes not with the whole name but with a series of Numbers added to part of the name?? Sometimes the whole title of the song is replaced with a series of numbers.. Can I change my prefs so the name of the song stays instead of being replaced with numbers?? How do I know which songs have downloaded sucessfully without having to open them and listening to each?? thank you Stewart aka csg1000 stewart@winning.com |
Hi I have never had the entire tag as an alphanumeric string but there's a first time for everything. Some files downloaded from PCs only have a limited display space for the file tag and so they translate the long version into a shortened coded version which is what you see. Assuming that you have selected iTunes as the default format for your downloads from the internet, it is easy to drop into LW Library and change the tag by clicking on the words, waiting a moment and then clicking again. This will open the box for you to edit. When you have finished, press return to save the edit. I have a routine of editing the tags immediately the download is completed. That way, I never lose track of what each file is. And you always know when the download has been brought to to successful conclusion because it tells you when the file is "Complete" in the downloads box. Hope that helps.:) |
numbers instead of names David Aloha 6/17 thanks for your note!! I will look into the itunes.. When I am downloading 20 songs at a whack, I don't have time to sit in front of the computer and watch as each completes and then change the name immediately .. like watching the grass grow ;-)) thanks again! Sincerely, Stewart@winning.com |
With mas os 9 i noticed, that long file names were stored in the comments section of the file automatically by some p2p programs, and translated into the bizzare alphanumeric code (is that unicode?) that we've seen. |
That was my question ;-) or sorta of.. Still wondering why that happens and How to not have it happen ;-) |
How to avoid? Sadly, it's an automatic function and, unless you are prepared to upgrade, it's not going to go away. I seem to remember the annoyance continuing in OS9.2 but it stopped for OS10.1. Certainly, it never happens on the current OS10.2.6 (although many other annoyances have replaced it so don't feel left out).:) Even after twenty plus years, life with Macs is still two steps forward and one step back! |
Thanks for your thoughts... Funny, because the previous version of LimeW this did not happen Well don't programs for the V10 so I guess i will have to live with it for a while longer Thanks and Aloha Stewart |
That Long David91 I've only been playing with Macs for 14 years and it didn't take me all 14 to figure that one out. :D I believe with the advent of "X", we may have graduated to the 50/50 phase of two steps foward and two steps back. That's the problem with being decades enriched and an "old" Mac user. Have a nice day David91. |
Wow callahan. That's a long time on macs. I've only been using one for 12 years, but, considering that many of those were as a very young child, it's not that much :( |
Thanks for posting I started in 89 on a mac se..and got hung up .. no $$ when I got this imac as a present a couple of Christmases ago, the blue/silver 400/256/20gig.. os9.2. Got an external 30 and am wondering.. is it worth it to install the X on the external as i do not have any of the X programs?? Whadya tink?? and why? Thanks Stewart http://Surf.to/TropicalFragrances |
Hmm...I'd say why not? I mean, u still have os 9 on your internal, so if u get os X now, you can tool around with it a little, get used to it, so then you can know it well when u get ur next mac. however, i would suggest waiting, say a month for panther to come out, so you have the latest OS. Cuz if u bought it now, u'd have to pay the 130 dollar upgrade fee. |
Thanks Sounds like a plan.. 6:35 (local Waikiki) thanks for your remards and idea aloha... Stewart |
