Installation "by hand"?

Hi everybody,

since I have the same problem as a few other people here (G3/OS9, Limewire Istaller only fills the trash with certain files and nothing more, MRJ 2.2.5 is installed)
I ask you:
Is is it possible. to install Limewire "by hand" = I get a working version from a friend and put every file to where it belongs.
Is ther much more than the files in the limewire-folder and one system-extension?

Thanks in advance for eny helpful answer,

musician(guest until this works:-)

Try it! :)

If its works it is possible ;) , if not you have the option to download the source from the Limewire homepage and compile it.

OK, OK, joking about an old man´s probs;-)

Can you tell me at least, what else must be installed beside the Lime-Wire-Folder?
Any System-Extension?

No. I think only the developers (they sure won´t tell you) and people who know java very good know what Limewire is installing.

As I said you can download a compiler for java(you can get free one), download the source and compile it. But you have to learn some things for it.

But the easiest way is to download a Limewire clone.

Hi Morgwen,

for now I found the solution in using Limewire under VPC5/Windows 2000.-/

Can you help me with a "Limewire clone" - I don´t know what to look for on the Mac-side.

Thankyou in advance!!

Hmm...

for Macs I know only this one:

http://www.acquisitionx.com/

But they are asking money for it. What about Phex? It also connets to the Gnutella net and is free to use without any crapware:

try follow link:

ftp://ftp.apple.com/developer/Java/M....5_Install.bin

drag into stuffitexpander if extract expand automaticly

install it

also drop the MRJ Enabler-extension in your extension folder
also try to drop the whole MRJ Libraries-folder in your extension folder cause it may not install all files
better restart
try again the limewire installer
