cant connect Mac os 9.1 Please help me. I can't get LimeWire to work since i actually paid for it! When i try to download anything, a message pops up telling me that i'm not connected to the network when i AM online. The only option available for me is to select is "disconnect" What can i do? I am on dial-up. Mac os 9.1. I don't know what version of LimeWire Pro i'm trying to use - how do you tell? I never had this problem until i paid for membership. Any help would be appreciated and please talk to me in language a novice like me will understand. I've already tried double clicking on the attached .jar file. It made no difference. Thanks very much. |
1 Attachment(s) It's generally a good idea to delete your LW preferences before you upgrade to Pro. But you'll need to make a note of all your settings before you do this, b/c after you delete the prefs you'll need to reset them. Close Limewire (LW)! Now go to your Preferences folder & view it in list mode. The LW Prefs folder will be at the top of the list & is called .limewire Now trash this folder. Drag & drop into the trash or select it & hold down both the apple & Delete keys. This will send it to the trash. Next time you open LW, you'll need to reset all your options. And LW will create a new set of Preferences. To find which version of LW you're using, go to Help & see About... |
Sorry, but i still get the same message. Perhaps i'm not answering the question about my connection correctly (Modem, T1 or T3) cuz i honestly don't know how to answer that - i think i selected "Modem". By the way, the version is 4.0.2 |
OK so deleting your Preferences folder didn't do the trick! Update your Java to MRJ 2.2.6 (& ignore what they say it's about OS 9.2.2! You can also use it in OS 9.1!) Restart the computer & rebuild the desktop file. This is healthy for the computer & should be done after installing any software & also at least monthly. To re-build the desktop: As soon as you select restart the comp., hold down both the apple & Option keys simultaneously until you see a message on the screen that says 'Do you wish to Rebuild the desktop', & you should click Yes or OK! As far as your settings go: Speed should be set to modem for a dial-up connection. Also tick Disable Ultrapeer Capabilities & press the Apply button. Go to Tools>Options>Connections & untick connect at startup & press the Apply button. Now close LW. Open LW & leave for some time (perhaps 15-20 mins), then go to LW's menu & select Connect. Let it try to connect for up to an hour. By the way approx. how many (a) incomplete & (b) shared files do you have? If you have many, it can take LW considerable time to load them all & then to settle down after it tries to connect to each individual incomplete file. If you have over 1,000 shared files then may I suggest that just for the time being, you reduce that down to perhaps 1/10th of the number. Once we get you connected you can increase it again. |
still doesn't work i tried what you suggested but it's still not working (the same "you are not connected to the network" message). This is a message i recieved from Zanzele. Do you see anything wrong with her advice? Hi Blake, Please try the following: -Uninstall all versions of LimeWire. -Delete all LimeWire aliases and installers from your desktop and Apple menu. -Reboot your computer. -Download another LimeWire Pro installer, using your download url. -Reinstall LimeWire Pro. Thanks, Zenzele |
snowssnake this is not LW Support. This is a forum. LW Support & the forum are different web sites. For Pro see here: service@limewire.com for direct contact. By the way, have you considered updating to OS 9.2.2? Downloads necessary are here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75288 I hope you updated your Java like I suggested earlier. Can you please answer these questions: 1. Which model of mac are you using? 2. How much RAM do you have? 3. How large is your hard disk drive & how much available disk space do you have? 4. Which 3rd party disk utilities do you have? The more we know the easier it will be to try (at least) to find a solution. |
same problem I seem to be having a similar problem. Ive been using Limewire for years and it suddenly won't connect. It says connecting at the bottom but never connects. I have tried all of the advice in your previous messages still no luck. I havn't changed anything on my system(mac 9.1) and have tried re-installing it. No joy. Id be interested to hear any solutions you come up with. Thanks Madelaine |
