Older version of limewire

Is there a link where i can download a older version of limewire for imac classic? I guess limewire 4.0 and newer isnt working anymore for imac classic only limewire 4.0 and lower are working for classic imac.

Only A Hobo October 7th, 2005 03:02 PM

Limewire 4.0 for Mac classic is available from http://www.limewire.com/english/cont...oadfree2.shtml

Will this not be suitable for you? You may have to twiddle with the Java to get it to work (sorry I don't no quite how on classic).

missykittie81 October 7th, 2005 11:28 PM

That didnt work no installment came up hmmmmmmm?

Only A Hobo October 8th, 2005 07:23 PM

Are you running OS9 or running Classic under OSX? ... which never seems to work very well, imho:)

we need someone here who uses OS9 .. or can remember it a lot better than I can ...:)

missykittie81 October 8th, 2005 09:04 PM

I'm afraid no one seems to have taken up the chalenge on this one ... I have looked for an older version of LW, but as yet I haven't found one, but If I understand you, you still have a version of LW which used to work, so what exactly happenned when it stopped working?

Older versions of Limewire

I've just registered with the forum and came across your posting. I know a couple of months have passed since you posted your message, but if you still need pre-4.0 versions of Limewire, I have an asssortment of basic and pro versions that I can pass on to you. If you are still interested in getting early versions, let me know and we can ry to figure out a way to get them to you.

Another note for this here old thread, lol :D Update from OS 9.1 to 9.2.2 & update your Java also.
For OS 9 updates see http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75288

Java updates:

MRJ 2.2.6 for OS 9.2.2
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120209

MRJ 2.2.5 for OS 8.1-9.2
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75097

If LW still doesn't run, delete your LW preferences folder found in the System preferences folder. View the preferences folder by list mode & alphabetical & .limewire folder should be at the top of the list. Trash it!

missykittie81 November 28th, 2005 08:47 PM

Chulo I do need a older versions of lime wire if you have any link to download that would be great.

Lord of the Rings how do i update java with the links you gave us??

Lord of the Rings November 29th, 2005 06:16 AM

You'd need to update to OS 9.2.2 1st before updating your Java. Then do each Java install starting from MRJ 2.2.5

BTW updating from os 9.1 I think also needs to be in steps. 1. 9.2.1 & then 2. 9.2.2

I have LW 4.0.8
I wouldn't recommend getting earlier than version 4. Some clients ban the earlier versions so you would have difficulty connecting to some people.

Chulo December 5th, 2005 08:33 PM

Missykittie,

Sorry for tardy reply, but I'm out of town and I using a very unreliable and slow connection.

If you haven't already updated Java as recommended elsewhere, and still want earlier versions of limewire, we will have to work out a way to get them to you. Since I don't have a website, I obviously cannot post them there. The only thing that comes to my mind is for me to post the files on usenet in the alter.binaries.mac.retro newsgroup (or some such group). This is a nice, neutral and anonymous location. The only problem is that I will not be able to post them before the week prior to Xmas. (At home I have a reliable broadband connection.) IF this is acceptable to you let me know. I will NOT leave you hanging. I will notify you a couple of days before I post the binaries and they will remain posted for 10-14 days (the average retention period).

Chulo

OK thanks alot

Chulo December 7th, 2005 06:14 PM

missykittie,

OK. Stay tuned.

(I assume you are familiar with the Mac news groups on usenet and with downloading binaries.)

missykittie81 December 8th, 2005 12:05 PM

Chulo

Yea somewhat i do

Lord of the Rings December 8th, 2005 12:14 PM

What version are you after missykittie81? LW 4.0.?

missykittie81 December 9th, 2005 06:46 PM

Lord of the Rings

Below 4.0 cuz 4.0 always freezes.

Chulo December 20th, 2005 07:55 PM

Missykitty,

Well, I made it home and just uploaded LimeWire 3.6.6 to alt.binaries.mac.retro. Depending on your usenet service provider, the file should stay up for the next few days to as long as 3 weeks. If you have problems downloading the file, let me know so we can come up with another way to get the file to you. If you successfully download the file and find that you want an even earlier version or a still later pre-4.x.x version, let me know and I can let you know what else I have (appox. 8 in all). Keep me posted on your progess. I hope everything goes well. You have patiently waited for this and I hope the wait was worthwhile.

LW 3 or earlier is not good for the network. The reason your LW 4 freezes is probably due to Java & ram allocation. Have you tried increasing the ram allocation. Yes I do have more than one version of LW 4. But I would certainly not give away earlier versions. It would be irresponsible "for me as a forum mod" to offer such versions.

missykittie81 December 21st, 2005 01:36 PM

how do i increasing the ram allocation?
