Solved one install prob by turning ext.s off

This is one heck of a buggy program. At least I got it to install. Now if it would only run...

So: if you're one of the many who tried to install but just ended up with a bunch of files in your trash, and all the other solutions didn't work, try restarting your Mac with the shift button held down (to turn off all extensions) and then running the installer. If all goes well, you'll end up with an alias to LimeWire on the desktop and the actual program files in the Applications folder (or wherever you told it to install).

For newer-bies: If you haven't gotten that far, here's what you have to do to get this program onto your OS 8.x Mac. (1) Download the latest version for Mac (not the OS X version), which is about 11 MB. Long, long download. (2) Unstuff the file. (3) Select the Installer file, hit Get Info (command-I), select Memory from the pull-down menu, and increase the Preferred number (1000 worked for me). Close the info window. (4) Restart your computer. Hold down the shift key as the computer restarts. You should get a message on the startup screen that says Extensions Off. (5) Run the Installer. (6) Restart your computer.

At that point, I try running LimeWire on my Powerbook 3400c with OS 8.6, and the program shuts down with a message about a Type 3 error. I guess that's in a different forum, though. I'd just like to note that every version of LimeWire for OX 8.x has had some problem -- downloading, unstuffing, installing, running, and so on. Why? These are the easy problems: for example, just make an installer with enough memory assigned to it! The developers could save people a lot of grief and make their software more popular! I've never seen software that has basically the same kind of bug in version after version! How about this: release a new version that has no changes, except that it installs easily. Anyone up to the challenge?
