No, I'm not exaggerating. You can't download a file anymore without it being corrupt. Even if you're downloading hashed files!
Blame it on the RIAA and their hired "spam the network" people.
That's why bitzi was invented. You need be part of the group that stops this.
If people report the hash of files that aren't the true file, and everyone uses a "catalog" like bitzi, this maneuver wouldn't work.
It's not Morpheus and Vinnie's new little "security" trick won't save the world either.

peerless-
I know what youve said is true, I was annoyed because I wasent getting any response. I do think we need to have our voices heard and keep the pressure up to get the problem higher on someones agenda.

Is there not a way (besides this forum) to get a message to morpheus users with some instruction on what they can do to be better "neighbors"?

I tried to register but had problems. When I entered my email the system gave me an error message-probably because I have my own domain that forewards to my connection adress. I also forgot my limewire password (Pretty dumb) and cant get through because of the prior problem. I have emailed the administrator. In the meanwhile, I have been signing my postings as I think if you have something to say you should be willing to be known.

p.s. The time stamp tells me that you folks must be out west. Im usually signed off by the time you come on line. But thanks for your replys.

If it is any comfort...

... I will personally switch from Morpheus to Gnucleus after reading this thread.

Just installed Gnucleus, and will pull the plug on Morpheus when my current downloads are done.

I think the problem is twofold:

1. I consider myself pretty computer literate, but didn't bother much about the tech. behind Morpheus when they switched to the gnutella network. I really like to use open source software when I can, but wanting a familiar interface, I chose Morpheus, unaware that the tech. was based on superior open source code. Had I known this, and that I wouldn't have to get those annoying ad-popups, I would NEVER have chosen Morpheus. What is needed is more publicity about the Gnucleus client and the fact that it is ad-free! :-)

2. I didn't know Morpheus was causing trouble for others. This would have made me look for another client earlier, BUT I think if people find that they can get Morpheus functionality without ads, they'll be happy to switch, even when unaware of the problems other face with Morpheus. :-)

So, start spreading the happy (old) news: "Get Morpheus Functionality Without Annoying Ads by Choosing the Original!"

I'll personally make an effort (by sending this info to my pal who is a web news service editor here in Norway), and hope everyone else can spread it as well... :-)

How about sharing properly titled Internet Shourtcuts to the Gnucleus download on the gnutella network?
